Western Canada British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba Canada is a very large country. It is divided into 10 provinces and 3 territories. We are going to take a trip across Canada. Let’s begin with our own province, British Columbia. From Sea to Sea British Columbia is a land of mountains, rivers, forests and lakes. Some big cities in British Columbia are Vancouver and Victoria. Victoria is the capital city of British Columbia. Forestry is an important industry in British Columbia. Flag of British Columbia Steller Jay Dogwood Alberta is a land of rolling hills and grasslands. It is one of the prairie provinces. Some big cities in Alberta are Calgary and Edmonton. Edmonton is the capital city of Alberta. Alberta is known for its production of fossil fuels (oil, coal, gas). Many people enjoy going to the Calgary Stampede. Flag of Alberta Wild Rose Great Horned Owl Saskatchewan is one of Canada’s prairie provinces. The land is flat with grasslands and shallow lakes. The winters are very cold and the summers are very hot. Saskatchewan grows wheat and other grains to feed the world. Regina and Saskatoon are its largest cities. Mining copper, zinc, nickel and gold are important industries in Manitoba. Manitoba’s largest cities are Winnipeg and Brandon. Winnipeg is Manitoba’s capital city. People like to visit Assiniboine Park to visit a statue of Winnie the Pooh. A soldier named a small black bear “Winnie” after his home town of Winnipeg. Many polar bears live in northern Manitoba.
