Maori/Moriori Research and / or Professional Practice Fellow Te Ao o Rongomaraeroa National Centre for Peace and Conflict Studies University of Otago Applications are invited for a visiting temporary position as Maori Research or Professional Practice Fellow at Te Ao o Rongomaraeroa / National Centre for Peace and Conflict Studies at the University of Otago. This is a one to two month visiting position for 2013 aimed at providing suitably qualified Maori Scholars, Practitioners, Policy Makers or Community Workers with an opportunity to collaborate with Faculty and Students at Te Ao O Rongomaraeroa on issues relating to building a peaceful and harmonious Aotearoa/New Zealand. It is expected that the successful candidate will assist the Director and Faculty of the Centre in helping align the Centre’s teaching, research and practice to the principles of Te Tiriti of Waitangi and develop ways for the Centre to make theoretical and practical contributions to the reduction of direct and indirect violence in Aotearoa-New Zealand This is not an exclusive academic position and the successful candidate can come from a range of vocational and academic backgrounds. The particular appointment will be determined by the candidate’s specific qualifications and experience. We welcome applications from persons of Maori descent who have worked or are currently working in academia, the law, public policy, health or community arenas. We would like the candidate to give one public lecture and one Centre seminar and work with us and local Iwi on the organisation and delivery of a two day orientation (for all Staff and students) on relevant historic and contemporary Maori issues at a local Marae. We would also value contributions from the successful candidate regarding research/practice projects that the Centre might consider in collaboration with indigenous partners. The start date for this position will be the 1st March 2013 for either one or two months. This position would suit someone who is currently in employment who could be given leave of absence for a one to two month period. It would also suit someone who is in active retirement.
