Whether in programming, facility maintenance, customer service, or individual interactions with you and each other, they are challenged to be excellent in everything that they do. Looking back over the past few months, I could describe what we have experienced due to the pandemic in many ways. Unprecedented, stressful and uncertainty are terms that are often used to describe what has been happening within communities and around the world. What I have seen within PRCS is a commitment to serve like never before. Employees have stepped into roles outside of their normal jobs to provide continuity of service. They have provided programming online so that our patrons could still engage with us and receive services. They worked to keep parks open throughout the pandemic so that citizens always had a safe place to exercise or get away from it all, if only for a brief walk or hike. Recently, the majority of our sites and programs reopened, with new guidelines and restrictions, so that citizens can safely take advantage of our many programs and facilities once again. Due to early uncertainties and extended closures related to the pandemic, we made the decision to forego a printed summer Activity Guide. Now that many programs have resumed, most facilities have reopened and the public is safely enjoying all that PRCS has to offer, we chose to publish a printed guide for the 2020 fall season. Staff has worked diligently to develop new and exciting programs and activities for you and your family, while following established guidelines to ensure your safety and well-being. As we continue to experience challenging times and the impact of the pandemic on service delivery, I ask that you continue to demonstrate patience, flexibility and understanding since it is likely that planning and programs may change. My staff and I remain committed to you and to creating community in Loudoun County through our people, parks and programs. Sincerely, Steve Torpy Director, Loudoun County Department of Parks, Recreation and Community Services WHAT’S INSIDE Events, Classes & Activities: September 1 - November 30, 2020 General Registration Begins August 13 • Senior Registration Begins August 12 Plan Ahead!
