La verità negata. Il film Sabato 14 gennaio alle ore 18.30 in occasione della Giornata della memoria 2017, al Teatro Cinema della Compagnia, proiezione del film: La verità negata Giorno della Memoria 2017 Basato sul famoso libro “Denial: Holocaust History on Trial” di Deborah E. Lipstadt, il film racconta della battaglia legale intrapresa dall’autrice, interpretata dal premio Oscar Rachel Weisz, contro il negazionista David Irving (Timothy Spall) che negava l’Olocausto e che citò la scrittrice in giudizio per diffamazione. Il sistema legale britannico prevede in questi casi che l’onere della prova spetti all’imputato; toccò quindi a Lipstadt e al suo gruppo di avvocati guidato da Richard Rampton (Tom Wilkinson) provare una verità fondamentale, ovvero che l’Olocausto, uno degli eventi più gravi e significativi del XX secolo, era tutt’altro che un’invenzione. Denial is a 2016 British-American historical drama film based on Deborah E. Lipstadt’s book History on Trial: My Day in Court with a Holocaust Denier about the Irving v Penguin Books Ltd case when the Holocaust scholar was sued by notorious Holocaust denier, David Irving, for libel. Deborah E. Lipstadt is an American professor in Holocaust Studies, who at- tracts the ire of David Irving, a self-proclaimed scholar of Nazi Germany, who accosts her by disrupting her speaking engagements and files a libel lawsuit against her and her pub- lisher for declaring him a Holocaust denier in her books. The suit is filed in the United Kingdom where the burden of proof is on the accused. Therefore, it was up to Lipstadt and her legal team, led by Anthony Julius as head solicitor and Richard Rampton as head barrister, to prove that Irving specifically knew he was lying in claiming the Holocaust did not occur.
