
MATH EXPRESSIONS GRADE 2 – SCOPE AND SEQUENCE UNIT 1: UNDERSTANDING ADDITION AND SUBTRACTION Resources: Math Expressions Estimated Timeframe: 15---25 days Algebra & Functions: ● Solve addition equations with sums through 20 using the commutative property (5+3=8, 3+5=8). ● Solve addition equations with three addends through sums of 20 using the associative property of addition. ● Demonstrate the ability to use a variety of strategies to solve equations and inequalities. ● Recognize, describe, extend, and represent a variety of patterns based on attributes, number, geometry (number patterns, patterns on the calendar, shape patterns, etc.). ● Use addition and subtraction within 100 to solve one--- and two---step problems with unknowns in all positions. ● Use a strategy (using numbers, symbols (+ ---), words and/or pictures) to solve addition and subtraction word problems and be able to clearly explain one’s thinking to others.
