In 1963 an additional campus was opened in Elmhurst, NY. The “two became one” at the Elmhurst site in 1985. ounded as a preparatory high school, Cathedral was also a seminary; a place where Fa boy could be comfortable discerning a vocation to the diocesan priesthood at a young age. Whether our graduates don the vestments of pastoral service as priests or deacons, or devote themselves to caring for an individual family, a young man who experiences the Cathedral spirit will be ready and willing to be a man for greatness. 2 ino Russo and his staff at Gargiulo’s hosted a wonderful cocktail hour, Nfeaturing seafood and carving stations, and an outstanding meal followed Cathedral Prep Celebrates by a beautifully decorated cake and coffee. 100 Years Of Catholic Academic Excellence And Forming Men For Greatness s we concluded our Centennial events, close to 500 members of the Cathedral APrep community gathered on Sunday, October 4th, at Gargiulo’s Restaurant in Coney Island, Brooklyn, NY, to celebrate Cathedral’s illustrious history. fter dinner, two of our Men of Greatness, Alums Father Chris Bethge, ’07, Aand Steve Somers, ’78, gave testimonials of the academic and spiritual foundations they received while at the Prep. r. Joseph Fonti, ’84, Rector-President, spoke of Cathedral’s history and mission. FHe thanked the loyal alumni and benefactors for their past and continued support. Father acknowledged and awarded former and present Rector- Principals and Faculty with the Immaculata Award for their service and dedication to Cathedral. Next, Fr. Fonti and Principal Richie Diaz, ’96, made a special floral presentation to Administrative Assistant Fran Heaslip, who is retiring after 31 years at the Prep. he evening concluded with the Tsinging of our school song, the athedral Prep was established in 1914, and is proud to call over 4,700 men “Salve Regina.” The 100th Anniversary Cgraduates. A full house – over 470 – comprised of alumni, Assistant Principal of Student Life former and present faculty, and loyal supporters joined Bishops Mr. Louis D’Amico, ’82, M.B.A. DiMarzio, Sanchez, ’66, and Massa in giving thanks to God, rekindling friendships, and Business Manager renewing commitments to keep Cathedral serving the Diocese for the next 100 years.
