JOB DESCRIPTION JOB TITLE: Director of Development SUPERVISOR: Executive Director SALARY: $70,000 MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES: The Director of Development coordinates, in close collaboration with the Executive Director, all development activities, including donor development, private foundation and corporate solicitations, and government grants; and all communication strategies and services. The Director of Development is responsible for the formulation and implementation of annual resource development and communication goals and plans for the organization. PRIMARY FUNCTIONS: Fundraising ▪ Work in close collaboration with the Executive Director and Resource Development Committee to create and implement a comprehensive development plan that includes the cultivation and solicitation of individual and corporate support. This may include: o Establishing and achieving financial goals for the organization’s fundraising activities; o Identifying and cultivating potential individual and institutional donors; o Planning and executing special events; o Developing and implementing planned giving program; o Evaluating success of efforts and make recommendations for change; o Working within fundraising software such as Bloomerang or Raiser’s Edge. ▪ Work in close collaboration with the Executive Director and Development Manager to develop and implement annual plans for sustaining and cultivating private and public institutional support for the organization, including: o Overseeing grant development, submission, reporting, and metrics; o Coordinating internal communication among departments at Impact to identify and exploit opportunities for institutional support; o Building strong relationships with current funders and foundation prospects to foster new opportunities; o Establish and nurture relationships with federal, state and local funders to ensure maximum contract revenue ▪ Oversee all special events including: o Determining financial and participation metrics for event success; o Creating and monitoring special event budgets; o Developing, implementing, and assessing plans to ensure successful, enjoyable events; o Evaluating each event for effectiveness, and assessing agency needs for new or revised events; o Establishing and implementing standard operating procedures for data collection and management; o Coordinating special event branding and collateral development with graphic designers. Communications ▪ In collaboration with the Executive Director, raise awareness for the organization and cause by overseeing community and media relations including: o Developing an annual communications plan that will raise awareness of the organization’s mission, accomplishments, benefits, and future goals that includes benchmarks and evaluation of effectiveness; o Overseeing the development of agency publications, including printed materials and web presence and social media; o Maintaining a network of volunteers, recruiting new volunteers, and overseeing current volunteer activities as needed. Management Team ▪ The Development Director is an integral member of the organization’s management team. As such the position will: o Actively participate in advancing the mission of the organization through active leadership, problem solving, and strategic thinking; o Foster open communication both within and between departments. ▪ Provide written reports as required, including: o Regular reports to the Board of Directors; o Annual department goals and objectives; o Regular fundraising and communications summaries. All Impact staff are expected to advise their supervisor or the Executive Director promptly of any problem that could cause adverse publicity or an embarrassment to Impact. All Impact staff are expected to work courteously and respectfully with all other employees, board members, volunteers, residents, and others with whom they come in contact in the course of their employment. All staff must be willing and able to work evenings as required by activities, events or job responsibilities. QUALIFICATIONS: ▪ Master’s degree and at least 5-10 years of progressively responsible development experience required. ▪ Demonstrated success in developing and cultivating relationships with a wide variety of current and prospective stakeholders; ▪ Demonstrated ability to balance management acumen and creative thinking, as well as the capacity to establish and maintain policies and systems that result in increased resources for the organization; ▪ Demonstrated excellence in fundraising, oral and written communications and development strategy; ▪ Demonstrated ability to work effectively with boards, committees and volunteers; ▪ Proven ability to design and implement comprehensive fundraising programming; ▪ Capacity and commitment to develop understanding of the challenges facing people recovering from mental illness; ▪ Excellent organizational skills, consistent attention to details, and active problem solving skills. ▪ Demonstrated ability to function independently, while still being a team player and manage multiple projects concurrently ▪ As required, transport participants in your own vehicle. You are required to meet agency standards for the transportation of participants in their personal vehicles. This includes but is not limited to your personally obtaining and maintaining $100,000/$300,000 bodily injury and liability insurance. You are required to submit proof of this insurance at least annually. ▪ Maintain certification (or the ability to obtain certification within the first three months of hire) in Basic First Aid and CPR. ▪ Other duties as assigned.
