CASE HISTORY Ref: MM053 - Rev 00, March 2014 RENO ® MATTRESS RAWANG BYPASS (PHASE 2) RAWANG, SELANGOR , MALAYSIA CHANNEL LINING Product: RENO ® MATTRESS, MACTEX NON WOVEN GEOTEXTILE Problem This federal-funded project was approved by the State Government in 2005 aimed to divert the traffic volume from Kuala Lumpur to Serendah and vice versa from the con- gested Jalan Rawang. A new 2.6km elevated section at 60 meter height stretches along a new 16km highway which connects Templer Park to Sungai Choh. The construction of this new highway started in early 2009 and by September 2012, Phase 2 package was in construction. An existing channel has to be realigned to make way for the new highway and therefore, our solution is sought to mitigate erosion along the new channel. Solution The consultant proposed to use Reno ® Mattress for erosion protection with a layer of geotextile to prevent scouring underneath the Reno ® Mattress. The selection by the consultant was based on the product’s proven track records on channel lining application. Before construction Reno ® Mattress is a structure made of hexagonal double twisted steel woven wire mesh and divided into uniformly partitioned cells by internal diaphragms placed at each meter to create a multi cell unit. The cells are filled with stones to form a flexible, permeable and monolithic structure. The mesh used in Reno ® Mattress fabrication is made from heavily galvanized wire conforming to BS443 Standards and coated with Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) to provide protection against long term corrosion. It is also able to develop and integrate with the surrounding environment and permitting the preservation of nature. At the beginning of the installation works, a layer of geotextile filter MacTex MXC50 was laid underneath the Reno ® Mattress to prevent scouring. After the mattresses During construction were laced and arranged accordingly on a slope, rockfill sizes from 150mm to 200mm was laid manually into the mattress cells.
