NEWS RELEASE Friday, 17 April 2015 PENFOLDS CHIEF WINEMAKER PETER GAGO INDUCTED AS A BARON OF THE BAROSSA Penfolds Chief Winemaker Peter Gago has been named a Baron of the Barossa at a ceremonial dinner held in the Barossa Valley last night. Founded in 1975, the Barons of the Barossa are a wine fraternity who support Barossa wine, viticulture, gastronomy, heritage and the arts. Membership to the exclusive group is offered to persons who have made an outstanding contribution to the Barossa region. "I'm incredibly proud to be anointed as a Baron of the Barossa – to help represent a region which continues to play a critical role in the global advancement and appreciation of South Australian wine" says Peter. “In the footsteps of Jeffrey Penfold-Hyland, Max Schubert, Dr Ray Beckwith and John Duval from the Penfolds stable, I'm delighted to be welcomed into this proud fraternity, who support and champion the very best that the Barossa Valley has to offer." The honour comes after Peter was recently named Gourmet Traveller WINE's 2014 Winemaker of the Year and received the Len Evans Award for Leadership - the first recipient to receive both accolades. - ENDS- EDITOR’S NOTES ABOUT PENFOLDS: Penfolds has been producing an impressive array of wines since 1844 and indisputably led the development of Australian fine wine into the modern era.
