Scapa is location, one mile south of Highland Park Distillery, on the high cliff of a large natural harbor which is strategic to UK naval defense. House Style: Scapa is a whisky to be enjoyed, not endured. Oily in body with chocolate, salt and straw in the flavor. It’s mild and easy-drinking whisky. It’s highly rated and well-known for its unique heather notes (reminiscent of freshly-cut ripe summer pear) and honey flavor. Water Source: Lingro Burn, its cooling water source, is adjacent to the distillery. Three underground springs (Orqvic, Halmyre and Mossbank) and Coltland Burn is its process water. The water itself is hard (i.e., a high mineral content). Heat Source: In 2019, a new natural gas-fired central boiler was installed. Status: Active/Producing Location: Speyside, one of Scotland's newest and smallest, is located on the River Tromie, one of River Spey's main tributaries, is in the Cairngorm mountains near Drumguish. The southern-most SS distillery. House Style: A slightly peaty flavor gives way to creamy hazelnut; tending towards the aperitif style. Water Source: River Tromie (via a lade or canal dug for this former corn mill’s water wheel) is used for production and cooling. The distillery is closest to the source of the River Spey (Loch Spey), providing access to the Speyside’s richest, purest and fastest running water.
