Now in its fifth year, the conference will be hosted by David Leonhardt, managing editor of The Times’s The Upshot. At the conference, speakers and delegates will be invited to evaluate and debate the best next steps to improve our current state of higher education and propose new models. Issues the conference will address include, among others: how big data are transforming instruction and enrollment, the future of large state universities, student safety, mental health, the role of sports on campus and improving opportunities for underprivileged students. Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel will open the conference day on Sept. 17 with a special keynote.
