Cresta Holidays has been one of the largest tour operators of city breaks and bespoke holidays for over 30 years. The company specialises in city breaks, short weekend breaks and flights. Cresta Holidays are part of the Thomas Cook Group and are members of the United Kingdom Gibraltar Tourism Association (UKGTA). The news came just before the latest meeting of the UKGTA in London and on the same day as a tourism road show was held in London for over 100 travels agents. The road show, held at the Waldorf Hilton Hotel in London, proved so popular that a waiting list was in place for agents wishing to attend the event. The GTB were joined by 11 industry partners at the event which is designed to provide a platform for these companies to promote their product and service to travel agents. This particular event was aimed at the London catchment areas for the three airlines operating to Gibraltar from the South East region of the UK, which is currently the strongest generator of traffic to the Rock. Liz Mason, Product Manager for Gibraltar, Spain and Portugal for Cresta Holidays said, “We’ve seen an encouraging performance from our Gibraltar programme so far in 2013 with it currently trading at over 7% up year-on-year. This performance has improved further and the last four weeks have seen us trade at plus 23% versus the same period in 2012. Overall Gibraltar is an area in which we’ve seen significant growth and we’re sure that this will continue.” Commenting on the news the Hon Neil Costa MP, Minister for Tourism, Commercial Affairs, Public Transport and the Port said, “This is indeed encouraging news. Cresta Holidays are members of the UKGTA and keen supporters of Gibraltar. The increase in sales is encouraging. Gibraltar is truly the ideal city break destination and to see a specialist in this field showing the Rock to be gaining in popularity is gratifying. I am pleased to have noted an increase in leisure business from two operators from the UK this year. We know that the corporate market remains strong and urge the local industry partners, in particular the hotels, to embrace this positive news and continue to work with tour operators to encourage growth in this market sector.” Note to Editors: Exhibiting at the Waldorf Hilton road show were: Bland Group British Airways Classic Collection Holidays Cresta/Thomas Cook Holidays Dive Charters Gibraltar Gibraltar Taxi Association/Persian Rose M H Bland/Calypso Tours Monarch Airlines O’Callaghan Eliott Hotel Parodytur/Parody Holidays Superbreak ___________________________________________________________________________________________________ Telephone No: (350) 200 78871 (Centrex: 2750) ; Fax No: (350) 200 78899 (Centrex: 3511) Email: [email protected] .
