Time Zone and Daylight Saving Time

Time zone and Daylight saving time Time zone and Daylight saving time EMD International A/S, Niels Jernesvej 10, DK-9220 Aalborg Ø, tel: +45 9635 4444, fax: +45 9635 4446, email: [email protected], www.emd.dk Introduction Introduction With energyPRO 4.2 is introduced time zone and daylight saving time. The correct selection of time zone and daylight saving time is important when it comes to the right time stamp of time series. Typically, time series with metrological data are in standard time, while time series with electricity prices are in daylight saving time. Setting time zone in External conditions When making a new project file or opening a project file previously saved in energyPRO 4.1, the time zone will automatically be the same as the time zone used by the computer. If you are going to work on a project located in a different time zone press Edit. This gives the following window: EMD International A/S, Niels Jernesvej 10, DK-9220 Aalborg Ø, tel: +45 9635 4444, fax: +45 9635 4446, email: [email protected], www.emd.dk 2 Setting time zone in External conditions Here it is possible to change the time zone: Another option is to make a user defined time zone: EMD International A/S, Niels Jernesvej 10, DK-9220 Aalborg Ø, tel: +45 9635 4444, fax: +45 9635 4446, email: [email protected], www.emd.dk 3 Setting daylight saving time and different time zone on time series Here you can specify offset to UTC. In this case the time zone is UTC +1 hour. Also, it is possible to enable or disable daylight savings and to detail the daylight saving settings. Setting daylight saving time and different time zone on time series In energyPRO 4.2, three new options have been added. Time series is in daylight saving time If the time series is in daylight saving time, enable this checkbox. This will typically be the case for price time series, such as electricity spot prices and electricity balancing prices. Typically time series not in daylight saving time are metrological time series. Define location This checkbox has to be enabled if the time series contains solar radiation values and is used in a solar collector or photovoltaic. The latitude has positive values north of equator and negative values south of equator. The longitude has positive values east of Greenwich Mean Time (UTC) and negative values west of Greenwich Mean Time. Different time zone If the time series is in a different time zone than the time zone of the project, this checkbox is selected. This gives the same options as in External conditions: EMD International A/S, Niels Jernesvej 10, DK-9220 Aalborg Ø, tel: +45 9635 4444, fax: +45 9635 4446, email: [email protected], www.emd.dk 5 Converting time series according to time zone and daylight saving time A typical case can be metrological data measured in UTC time. Converting time series according to time zone and daylight saving time If the time series is in a different time zone it is converted according to the difference in UTC offset. If the projects time zone is with daylight saving time and the time series is with daylight saving time the time series is not changed. If the time series is in standard time the values are moved one hour forward in the daylight saving time period. Likewise, if the projects time zone is without daylight saving time and the time series is in daylight saving time the values are moved one hour backward in the daylight saving time period. The first graph below shows the original time series, which is in standard time, second graph shows the time series in the planning period in the daylight saving time period. As it appears, the values are moved one hour forward.
