Coon Retreats by DIANA JANAS ASUCI Vice President Bill Coon issued a resolution Tues- day which^ in effect, withdrew charges made by Coon and a committee of ASUCI Senators alleging misuse of ASUCI funds by student bodyPresident Ron Ridgle. The resolution, dated January 28, consistedof the following: "a)the defendants Bill Coon, Dave Ault, George Avera, Greg Sutcliffe, Fernando Massimino, agree to a retrac- tion of the statements made against Mr. Ridgle relating to an allegedmisuse ("illegal") of ASUCI funds, b) that this retraction be made publicly*in the following manner: a) a written retraction in the NEW UNIVERSITY, which willbe publishedin its entirety. b) an oral apology to Mr. Ridgle at the Senate meeting of February 10, 1969 c) a written retraction and apology to be distributedin Mesa Court and at the Senate Meeting." The resolution further stated that if the above mentioned actions are not accepted by Mr. Ridgle, suit willbe filed with the ASUCI Supreme Court against the defendants, as mentioned earlier last week. The resolution was signed by Bill Coon, George Avera and Fernando Massimino. Senators Dave Ault (Budget Com- mittee Chainnan) and Greg Sutcliffe refused to add their signatures. Asked about his comments on the retraction, Ridgle said, "Hopefully, the people who signed it acted in good faith, they were sincere, shall we say. Also, hopefully, irresponsibility on the part of Senatorsin the future willbe avoided." Coon, commenting afterthe Tuesday afternoon meeting with Ridgle, voiced the hope that the Senate committees set up to study alternative forms of student government "can set up the most efficient system possible." Formal action against Ault and Sutcliffe can take one of two forms: action by the ASUCISenate itself,or filing of charges with the ASUCI SupremeCourt. At this writing, fin".l decision on whichof these two courses to take has not yet beenreached by Ridgle or Coon. But indications are that the Senate will be asked to handle the matter. Ridgle stated that "hopefully the Senate will solve this in- ternally and a suit would not have to be filed with the Honor ■ Council." Senate action against Ault and Sutcliffe could take the form of censure and removal from committees, possibly Clutching At The Little even dismissal from the Senate itself. Should the Senate not be able to solve the problem satisfac- torily, a list of charges which was prepared earlier may Rubber Duckie Power be filed with the Honor Council. (Filing of these charges was of forestalled by the January 28 resolution promising a public apology.)
