Na baixa- mar é possível passear pelos esteiros e bancos de vasa da área envolvente e observar a fauna local, sobretudo caranguejos e bivalves mas também algumas aves limícolas, que procuram alimento no lodo com os seus longos bicos. No extremo poente desta língua de areia avista-se uma curiosa edificação sobre paliçadas; trata-se de uma antiga estação de socorros a náufragos. Apesar da proximidade com a povoação, a qualidade da água mantém-se normalmente aceitável durante a época balnear, já que na Ria Formosa a água renova-se a cada ciclo de maré.
