H I G H W A Y 9 7 B R IG OF A FR D O There are three themes associated with this map: A E D T M O R U NTAIN BIKE A IL Call Density is a calculation of magnitude per unit area of bear incident points using a kernel function to fit a smoothly tapered surface to each point (It is S U important to note that cougar incident data was not used for analysis purposes). A search radius of 564m was used creating a result that equals the number M 2 M D of points per 1 km . This surface clearly shows areas with a high density of incident reports. E A R O L R A E T N O Note: There are no areas with any significant reported density of bear incidents south of Gallager Lake, in Keremeos or Cawston. D T S O U T The second theme shown on this map are locations of human use sites. These include schools, parks, campgrounds, and recreational trails. By H ÆI Crescent Beach comparing these locations to the call density surface, one may identify human use sites located in or abjacent to areas with high numbers of human- KV R N bear incidents. A R O A M A The last theme shown on this map are areas of moderate to high quality bear habitat*: The quality of bear feeding habitat changes from season C T A A R Dickinson Family Farm [ ÆI Living Memorial Baseball Park to season**, therefore, these areas of habitat are uniquely mapped by season**. These habitat areas are rated according to the BC Wildlife T t k W Habitat Ratings Standards Species Account for the South Okanagan-Similkameen, which was adapted from the generic Black Bear species R I G account available on the MSRM Wildlife Habitat Ratings website.
