The squads earned the distinction as a result of being the highest‐placing teams with at least a 3.00‐cumulative GPA at the most recent NCAA indoor and outdoor championship, respectively. In addition, the USTFCCCA announced 90 squads as All‐Academic teams for the track & field seasons. Indoor Track & Field Scholar Team of the Year – BYU The Cougars of BYU finished as the third‐place team at the 2011 NCAA Indoor Track &Field Championships, scoring 34 points with the help of three event titles. BYU has compiled a 3.22 cumulative team GPA through the spring 2011 semester. National Indoor Scholar‐Athlete of the Year Miles Batty won the mile and anchored the distance medley relay to a national title. Batty is one of ten Cougars that were named last week as All‐Academic individuals for the 2011 track & field seasons. Batty was joined on the list by teammates Alden Bahr, Colby Barber, Tanner Emrich, Trevor Heiner, Cade Lindahl, Nate Ogden, Jared Rohatinsky, and Rex Shields. Outdoor Track & Field Scholar Team of the Year – Florida State Florida State was the nation’s runner‐up (54 points) during the outdoor season as they came within a point of three‐peat NCAA team champion Texas A&M (55 points). The Seminoles have a 3.04 cumulative team GPA through the spring 2011 semester. Squad members Brian Chibudu, Michael Fout, and Ciaran O’Lionaird earned individual All‐Academic honors last week. Past Scholar‐Team of the Year Winners Indoor Track & Field 2011: BYU 2010: Indiana 2009: Nebraska 2008: Stanford 2007: Stanford Outdoor Track & Field 2011: Florida State 2010: Arizona State 2009: South Carolina 2008: Washington 2007: Stanford PAGE 2 All‐Academic Status Earned by 90 Teams In addition to the Scholar Teams of the Year, the USTFCCCA also announced the men’s 2011 Division I All‐Academic Track & Field Teams. A total of 90 institutions earned the distinction as a result of a cumulative team GPA of 3.00 or better. The University of Richmond reported the highest cumulative team GPA (3.51) through the spring 2011 semester. Harvard and Duke finished second on the GPA list at 3.48. Eight Big 12 squads were named to the All‐Academic list to lead the nation’s leagues. The Big East and Ivy followed with seven. The ACC had the fourth most with five. The list of women’s squads to reach All‐Academic status in Division I will be announced on Thursday.
