ISBN: 978-1-941249-05-5 4 About the Authors Role of ICT and Border Trade in Global Supply Chain: Case of Myanmar, p.15-p.32 Jay Rajasekera and Nyi Nyi Aung Dr. Jay Rajasekera, has been teaching Management and Information Technology courses at GSIM (also called IUJ Business School) at International University of Japan (IUJ) since 1995. He started his career at AT&T Bell Laboratories in New Jersey, USA. While at Bell Laboratories he designed the computer algorithm for the construction of world’s first undersea fiber optic cable TAT-8 between US and Europe. Good percentage of the world’s Internet traffic today is carried over the optical cables built using his patented algorithm. He resigned from Bell Laboratories and joined IUJ in 1995. Since then, holding positions of Professor, Associate Dean (1996-1997), Dean (2000-2004), Director of Matsushita Library and Information Center, and Director of E-Business Program. He has previously co-authored three books and published more than 50 management and technical articles in academically rated journals. He has wide consulting experience on issues related to globalization strategies, management, and technology, including e-government. He has conducted executive training programs at a number of large corporations in Japan, including IBM-Japan, Fuji Xerox, Fujitsu-AMD, Hitachi, DHL-Japan, and Mizuho Bank. He had also conducted seminars for business and government leaders in Indonesia, Myanmar, Nepal, and Mongolia. His opinions have appeared in Wall Street Journal, Nihon Keizai Shimbun, Japan Times, and other leading publications. Mr. Nyi Nyi Aung, has been working as a Deputy Director of Directorate of Trade under the Ministry of Commerce of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar. He started his career as an ICT officer in the Ministry of Commerce in 2004 after completing the Bachelor of Computer Science Degree from Mandalay Computer University in Myanmar. From 2006 to 2008, he was taking the role of secretary in the ICT Working Committee of his ministry, Ministry of Commerce, which is one of leading ministries in ICT projects implementation in Myanmar. In 2008, he was awarded a Japanese government scholarship to study MBA concentrated in the area of ICT and Management at the Graduate School of International Management (GSIM), International University of Japan (IUJ). He studied the diploma course in Advanced Trade Policy of World Trade Organization (WTO) in Geneva in 2013 and wrote a research paper titled: “The Importance of Rice Export Policy in Myanmar for National Export Strategy.” At present, he is working as the deputy head of WTO and Other International Organizations Division under Directorate of Trade, Ministry of Commerce. He has wide consulting experience on the major projects of Ministry of Commerce related to National Trade Facilitation Implementation Plan, National Export Strategy, Myanmar’s Trade Policy Review at WTO and Aids for Trade. He is taking the role of secretary of National Implementation Unit (NIU) of WTO Enhanced Integrated Framework (EIF) for Myanmar, which is core component of Aids for Trade agenda of WTO. He had also conducted as resource person at seminars and workshops on the trade, development and ICT related matters held in ASEAN since 2011. Besides, Prof. Li is also the Chairman and Director of Japan-China Management School, (JCMS), the Chairman of Japan Economic and Technology Internationalization Association (JETIA), the Lecturing Professor of Department of Economics at St. Joseph’s University, the ex-editor of Pacific Economic Review, the Visiting and Adjunct Professor of City University of Hong Kong, People University and etc.. Prof. Li received his Bachelor degree from Nanjing University in Econometrics, Master degree from Nanjing University and Johns Hopkins University, and Ph.D from Monash University. He also conducted his Post-Doctor research at Monash University and Australian National University. Adviser at Fudan University Law School, and International Fox Fellow at Yale Law School. She has received Juris Doctor Degree in Law (in International Law direction). Prof. Zhu is also a researcher of 985 Program supported by Center for American Studies of Fudan University: On Legal System of Intellectual Property in United States (No. 07FCZDO26).
