Annual CICCA “Club” competition to be held in Urbana on November 10! The Champaign County Camera Club has announced November 10 as the date for the 2018 CICCA Fall Salon. The day-long event, which concludes with CICCA’s annual fall business meeting where officers for the 2018-20 term will be elected, is being held in Urbana, Illinois. The venue for the fall salon is the historic Urbana Free Library located at 210 W. Green Street in Urbana. The library was founded in 1874 and is one of the oldest public libraries in Illinois. 2018 marks the 100th anniversary of the current building which was designed by famed architect Joseph Royer, a University of Illinois School of Architecture graduate whose local works include the magnificent Champaign County Courthouse, Illinois Theatre, and Urbana Lincoln Hotel. The fall salon is a club competition where member clubs compete against each other. The number of entries a club can have in the fall salon is limited to 50 digital photos in any combination of the three digital categories (nature, photorealistic, and abstract/altered reality), 50 monochrome prints in any combination of large and small, and 50 color prints in any combination of large and small. On the banks of Muscatine: 2018 CICCA Spring Salon Recap The 2018 CICCA Spring Salon was held on May 19th in Muscatine, Iowa. A big CICCA thank you to Ryno Olson, Hal Woods, and members of the Great River Camera Club for their hard work in hosting the salon. The spring salon is an individual event, and members of the eight participating CICCA clubs entered a total of 797 photographs for judging. Of the photos entered, 31 percent were prints (all categories) and 69 percent were digital images (all categories). They were followed by the Springfield Camera Club with 50 total member awards, and the Champaign County Camera Club with 44 total member awards. Club News Champaign County Camera Club (#2): Mary Cattell Meetings are usually held on the second and fourth Monday of the month from late August through June. Regular meetings begin at 7 p.m. and are held in Room 1103 of the Siebel Computer Science building at 201 N. Goodwin on campus (just North of University High School) in Urbana. Since the Mondays vary and sometimes we meet offsite, check the schedule on our website. Visitors are always welcome. The Champaign County Camera Club began our club year on August 27 with the usual "Get Re-acquainted Night" where we all bring 20 images of our summer activities. Thanks to our wonderful club webmaster and CCCC Facebook master (Jim McEnerney and Kim Ormsby), we had several new people come to the meeting who were interested in joining. We acknowledged the ribbon and medallion-winners from the CICCA Spring salon (since we don't CICCA Courier Page 5 Summer-Fall 2018 meet in the summer). Three of our members received medallions: Allen Wehrmann: Monochrome Print (The Dark Hedges); Jim Long: Digital P-R (Milky Way at White At our second meeting on September 10, Jim Long and Jim McEnerney gave a presentation on calibrating our monitors/printers using several different software packages. For the newcomers, they also talked about how to resize our images for CCCC and CICCA competitions. Our third meeting on September 24 was held "off-site" at Larry Kanfer's studio (author of dozens of coffee table photo books, e.g., Prairiescapes, Barnscapes, etc). Larry discussed his new venture into INTERNATIONAL photography. Three CICCA clubs participated in our CCCC spring field trip to Allerton Park the last weekend in April. Our first digital competition will be Monday, October 8 back in our usual venue (the Siebel Center for Computer Science just North of Uni High School in Urbana where we usually meet two Mondays per month). Our subjects will be A. Macro, B. Landscapes, and C. Architecture. The third category will be "open", i.e., it can be manipulated. (We try to have two photo-realistic and one open category for each competition.) On Saturday, October 13th, we hope to have our annual club fall foliage field trip -- destination TBD. CICCA Courier Page 6 Summer-Fall 2018 Several of our club members attended the PSA International Annual Conference in Salt Lake City at the end of September. Once back, our club members will be concentrating on the Fall Salon which we will be hosting in Urbana on November 10. We're hoping to plan a few fun activities for those who come early or stay late. Hope to see you all! Decatur Camera Club (#7): Terry Stoa Meetings are held from September through May on the second and fourth Thursday of each month.
