KEnnEDy, 18 FEbruary 1958 Dear Newly Elected Members of Congress, On behalf of the Institute of Politics, I congratulate you on your recent election and welcome you to the 23rd convening of the Bipartisan Program for Newly Elected Members of Congress. We applaud your commitment to public service and hope to assist your transition to your new and important role. Since 1972, this program has been an essential part of lawmakers’ orientation to the House of Representatives. This program has hosted more than 700 incoming members including future Vice Presidents, Speakers of the House, Majority Leaders, presidential candidates, and Civil Rights champions. While we will miss your presence in Cambridge this year, we are proud to offer the expertise of Harvard faculty and other policy experts as you begin your service in the House of Representatives. Our program is designed specifically to provide you the opportunity to get to know your colleagues, explore the policy implications of these important topics, and utilize the expertise of our faculty colleagues. You will be briefed on domestic and global challenges and engage in conversation with Harvard’s faculty and other policy experts on topics including fighting COVID-19, rebuilding the economy, America’s role in the world, and the effects of the pandemic and economic recession on educational access, food security, criminal justice, and democratic governance. In addition, we have invited current members of Congress to discuss the transition from the campaign to Capitol Hill, including, Reps. Joe Kennedy JD ‘09 (D, MA-04), Elise Stefanik AB ‘06 (R, NY-21), who both serve on the Institute of Politics Senior Advisory Committee. They will be joined by Reps. Dan Crenshaw MPA ‘17 (R, TX-02) and Ayanna Pressley (D, MA-07). Congratulations once again on your election to the House.
