Reporting Period: 10 April to 16 April 2014 Donor: OFDA/USAID Submission Date: 16 April 2014 Incidents Update: During the reporting period four natural disaster incidents were reported. Central Region: Kapisa Province (Update): The preliminary information obtained from ANDMA on 7 April indicates, around 400 families being affected as result of continuous rainfall in Hisa-i-Awali Kohistan, Hisa-i-Duwumi Kohistan, Koh Band, Nijrab, Mahmudi Raqi and Tagab districts. Joint assessment teams comprised of IOM, CARE, ANDMA, DRC and WFP/AREA initiated assessment of the affected areas 10-13 April, 47 families were verified in in need of NFIs, emergency shelter and food items. IOM will distribute family revitalization, blanket and shelter modules while DRC committed to provide Kapisa, Koh Band district, Aram Kot village, 10 April 2014, IOM cash assistance. Eastern Region: Nuristan Province (Update): As per initial information obtained from ARCS on 7 April, six families were reportedly affected as a result of a landslide in Parun district (Sosam village). A joint assessment team consisted of ARCS, IMC and WFP initiated assessment on 8 April, six families were verified in need of NFIs and food items. ARCS, IMC and WFP will cover NFIs and food needs. Northeast Region: Takhar Province: As per the initial information from ANDMA, on 12 April, 118 families were displaced as a result of landslide in Rustaq district (Khowja Khairab village). The incident resulted in destruction of the houses, household items and the families were forced to evacuate the area. A joint assessment team comprised of WFP, ANDMA, ARCS and CONCERN assessed the area on 12 April. 118 displaced families were verified who were living in open space with the main needs for NFIs, tents and food items. The government authorities have relocated the displaced families to Dashti Qala (Saraq village). On 13 April, IOM assisted all displaced families with the provision of Family modules, emergency shelter and winter kits, while WFP, ARCS, ANDMA and ANA assisted the families with the provision of food items, tents and portable water. DoPH has sent mobile clinic in the area to serve health needs of the displaced families. In a separate incident, as per initial information obtained from ANDMA, 30 families were affected as a result of flash flood in Chah Ab district (Bashir Abad village). A joint assessment team comprised of IOM, ARCS, ANDMA, DDMC and district representatives assessed the affected area on 13 April. The findings of the assessment indicated that the road between Takhar to Badakhshan and Taloqan to Chal and Namak Ab districts were closed for temporary period and was reopened on the same day. 30 houses were moderately damaged, there was no destruction to their household items thus the team has not recommended any type of assistance to these families. Takhar , Rustaq district, Khowja Khairab village , the entire village destroyed by landslide, 12 April 2014, IOM Takhar, Dashti Qala district , Saraq village , distribution of relief item to landslide displaced families, 12 April 2014, IOM Badakhshan Province: As per the preliminary information obtained from ANDMA on 12 April, 56 houses were destroyed in Teshkan district (Muzafari village) and Kishim district (Sare Jar and Sare Asiab villages). The incident also resulted in destruction of agricultural land, canals and roads. A joint assessment team comprised of IOM, ANDMA, ARCS and WFP assessed the affected families in Sar Asia-Shakhdan and Baloocha villages of Kishim district on 13 April. 32 houses where 74 families were living had been flooded; all their household and food items were destroyed. The flooding also resulted in the destruction of 743 Acres of agricultural land, 1,350 meters water canals and roads and 11 livestock were killed. The immediate needs of the affected families were NFIs, Emergency shelter kits and food items. IOM assisted the families with the provision of emergency shelter and family revitalization kits on 15 April, WFP provided food items, ANDMA will provide cash assistance and the provincial government will deliver 150 gabion boxes to the incident location to prevent the village from being flooded again. The flood in Teshkan district has only damaged roads while no damage to the residential houses has been reported. Badakhshan , Kishim district, Sar Asia -Shakhdan village , 12 April 2014, IOM West Region: Ghor Province: As per the preliminary reports obtained from ANDMA on 16 April, 150 families were affected as a result of flash flood in Du Layna district (Korab Cheshma Safid village). 95 livestock were also reportedly killed. A joint assessment team comprised of ANDMA, WFP, ARCS and ACF will assess the affected villages, the area is insecure therefore the exact date of the assessment yet to be finalized.
