teaching children The Master Series December 5th excellence 10:00 am Dance Injury Prevention Laura Valentín Laura’s dance training took place in San Juan, Puerto Rico. At age 15, she joined Ballet Concierto de Puerto Rico in the corps de ballet after representing Puerto Rico at the V International Ballet Competition in Jackson, Mississippi. Laura was promoted to principal dancer in 2004, and from 2005-2016 was a principal dancer of Balleteatro Nacional de Puerto Rico, and was the prima ballerina of the Island from 2006-2016. Her repertoire includes the leading roles of the renowned ballet classics (Giselle, Swan Lake, Don Quixote, Coppelia, Sleeping Beauty, The Nutcracker, Sylvia), and neoclassical and contemporary works from George Balanchine, Alberto Méndez, Jerome Robbins , Rodney Rivera, Septime Webre, Julio López and Ana Sánchez Colberg. She has been a guest dancer and teacher in companies of the United States and Latin America, as well as Festivals such as: three editions of the Miami International Dance Festival, the Festival Puerta de Oro in Colombia, the International Dance Festival in Panama, and the 24th and 25th edition of the Festival Internacional de Ballet Alicia Alonso en la Habana, Cuba. She trained delegations for YAGP, Miami International Ballet Festival, and PR Classical Dance Competition. She led Christian dance groups through many years, and has also been a commercial dancer in television specials, films, shows and events. Laura is the director and founder, with her husband, Osmay Molina, of Centro Danza, a dance training and education center specialized in ballet. Among her teachers were Carlota Carrera, María Carrera, Joaquín Banegas, Lolita San Miguel, José Parés, Vladimir Issaev, Lourdes Gómez, Miguel Campanería, Lourdes Ortega, Sylvia Marichal, María C. Palacios, and María J. Landa.
