financial incentives outlined in the most recent COVID-19 relief package, Governor Ivey and legislative leaders are considering Medicaid expansion and are currently reviewing the incentives. Alabama is one of 12 states that have not expanded its Medicaid eligibility under the Affordable Care Act. It is estimated that 300,000 people would be added to Medicaid if Alabama were to expand its eligibility; Medicaid expansion is estimated to bring in about $900 million in revenue (Modern Healthcare). • On March 18, the Alabama Senate unanimously approved and passed the $7.67 billion Education Trust Fund budget, which is the largest education budget in state history. The education budget includes 2% across the board pay raises for public education employees, a new salary matrix to recruit teachers, funding for a school nurse program to ensure every school system has nurses, and a retiree trust fund to present teachers with bonuses. The bill is now in the Alabama House of Representatives for approval (CBS 42). • The House is set to vote on Alabama’s General Fund budget by March 11. The House Ways and Means Committee’s budget is almost $2.5 billion for FY 2022 and will be the largest General Fund budget Alabama
