How to Get to Anderson House We Are Based in Small Town Called CURNO Which Is Just Outside Bergamo. the Address Is Via Bergamo

How to get to Anderson House We are based in small town called CURNO which is just outside Bergamo. The address is Via Bergamo 25 – it is along the road from Bergamo to Lecco and Como called LA BRIANTEA. We’re above a clothes shop called CARNEVALI and next to a SHELL petrol station. By car If you come by car, leave the A4 motorway either at the BERGAMO or the DALMINE exit. The school is 10 minutes from the exits. From the BERGAMO exit go around the roundabout, turn left and head towards LECCO/COMO. You will get onto a dual carriageway: leave it at the LONGUELO exit . Go straight on at the first roundabout and turn left at the second roundabout. Go straight ahead at the third roundabout and you’ll see a green building on your right with a clothes shop called CARNEVALI. There’s plenty of free parking around it. We’re on the second floor. From the DALMINE exit, get onto the dual carriageway heading towards VAL BREMBANA. Leave at the third exit, get onto another dual carriageway and head towards LOVERE. Leave at the CURNO exit, turn right and at the roundabout turn right again. After 2 kms you’ll get to a railway line: cross it and at the roundabout turn left. You’ll see a green building on the right with a shop called CARNEVALI. Park in the free car park. We’re on the second floor. By train If you’re coming by train, get a train from Milano Centrale or Lambrate to Bergamo get the Treviglio line (not the Carnate line which is slower). The Treviglio/Bergamo trains all stop in Lambrate and some leave from other stations in Milan (Porta Garibaldi, etc) so get the first train to Lambrate and get the connection to Bergamo. If you’re coming from the Venice area, get off in Brescia or Treviglio and get the connection to Bergamo – In Treviglio be careful that there are 2 stations: Treviglio Ovest and Treviglio Centrale. You may have to get a bus or walk from one station to the other. By plane If you’re coming by plane, the nearest airport to the school is (1) Milan Bergamo (also known as Milan Orio al Serio). It is the North Italian hub for Ryanair. The other two airports are (2) Linate and (3) Malpensa. 1) If you arrive at Bergamo airport, we can come and pick you up as it’s a 10-minute drive to the school. If not, there’s the bus no 1 to the centre of Bergamo (15 mins). Get off at PORTA NUOVA and get the 9A bus to MARIGOLDA (20 mins). Get off in VIA POLARESCO for Anderson House. 2) Linate is also relatively near to Bergamo – it’s to the east of Milan and Bergamo is north- east. It’s a 30-minute drive by car. There’s a shuttle from Linate to Milano Centrale (30 min) and either train or coach to Bergamo or Bergamo airport (1 hr). 3) Malpensa is the most distant from Bergamo – a 1-hour-15-minute drive as it’s on the other side of Milan to the north-west. Again there are coaches to Bergamo airport. Alternatively, get a train to Milan Centrale (30 min) and then another train to Bergamo (1 hour). The bus stop is in Via Polaresco or in front of CENTRO ZEBRA. Here’s the link to the map of transport in Bergamo. http://www.atb.bergamo.it/ITA/Default.aspx?SEZ=2&PAG=38&MOD=LIN Where to stay Hotel La Quercia in Mozzo We have a special arrangement with this hotel. It’s 2km from the school. We have negotiated €40 per night for a single bedroom or double used as a single with breakfast. Please book directly with the hotel (see details below) and mention “Convenzione Anderson House” so that you get the discounted price. Please advise the hotel the approximate time you’re arriving. Hotel LA QUERCIA – Via Dorotina 11 – 24030 Mozzo (BG) Italy Phone: +39 035 611220 – Fax: +39 035 4376754 Email: [email protected] – Site: www.hotellaquercia.com There’s a 9B bus to the school (get off in Via Polaresco) but I will arrange to have people collected there. If you arrive in the centre of Bergamo and want to go directly to Hotel La Quercia – take the no 8 bus from PORTA NUOVA to PONTE SAN PIETRO and get off along Via Lecco in MOZZO (the bus stop is 50m after the hotel and the Chinese restaurant which you will see on the right). What to see in Bergamo I recommend the walk along Viale Papa Giovanni from the station to Porta Nuova: Città Alta (Upper Town) surrounded by Venetian Walls is a remarkable sight. After Porta Nuova on the right and left is a pedestrian zone called Il Sentierone (the Big Walk or Pathway) with shops, bars and restaurants ( Bar Balzer on the right is worth a visit as it’s an historic bar and serves excellent pastries (pasticcini). Obviously staying in a hotel in Città Alta would be great but it’s not so convenient getting from there to the school. If you go out one evening we can book a restaurant in Città Alta or in Piazza Vecchia (the Old Square – one of the 10 most beautiful squares in the world as Le Corbusier put it!). In Piazza Vecchia there’s an exhibition of paintings from Pinacoteca Carrara (closed as it’s being restored) in the medieval building called Palazzo della Ragione . Behind Piazza Vecchia is the Cathedral Santa Maria Maggiore - worth seeing is the inlay (intarsio) designed by Lorenzo Lotto and crafted by the Fantoni school in Val Seriana – and the Cappella Colleoni . Once you’re in the Upper Town, I recommend a walk along the narrow streets of the old town and a stroll along the Venetian walls to admire the view of the Lower Town and beyond. If you’re staying on till Sunday we could drive you to an area where there are four Romanesque churches (Il Romanico degli Almenno) or the Colleoni Castle in Malpaga. .
