Eight competitors from the Qualifying Round in each event rode for the chance to win a spot in the finals on March 26. The next two days of rodeo will bring heightened competition as cowboys and cowgirls showcase their hard work while riding for the title of Champion and a customized Rodeo Austin branding iron. Bull rider Clayton Foltyn was be among the athletes returning tonight after advancing from the Qualifying Round on March 15 with a score of 74. “I am lucky that I made it back to the playoff round,” Foltyn said. “I am glad that I did my part and competed as hard as I could. The competition is always strong, and you never know what kind of bull you’ll draw, so all you can do is give it your best shot and hope that it goes your way.” Foltyn is from Winnie, Texas and has been around rodeo for as long as he can remember. In fact, it’s somewhat of a family business. “My grandfather and my dad both rode bulls professionally,” Foltyn said. “I was basically born into the sport of rodeo, traveling around watching my family compete before eventually getting into the arena myself.” Today, Foltyn has been competing professionally in bull riding for more than 12 years. He is also a two-time National Finals Rodeo qualifier, and hopes to qualify again this year.
