NEW VUD EDITOR NEEDED The Magazine for TV and FM DXers September 2018 KEEP THOSE DX REPORTS COMING! The Official Publication of the Worldwide TV-FM DX Association INSIDE THIS VUD CLICK TO NAVIGATE 02 Mailbox 18 FM News 35 Rural Broadband 03 TV News 23 Southern FM DX 37 WKAR w/ ATSC 3.0 14 FM Facilities 25 Northern FM DX 38 WRDE-LD in MD Sold DX REPORTS FROM: Mike Bugaj (CT), Russ Edmunds (PA), Doug Smith (TN) THE WORLDWIDE TV-FM DX ASSOCIATION Serving the UHF-VHF Enthusiast THE VHF-UHF DIGEST IS THE OFFICIAL PUBLICATION OF THE WORLDWIDE TV-FM DX ASSOCIATION DEDICATED TO THE OBSERVATION AND STUDY OF THE PROPAGATION OF LONG DISTANCE TELEVISION AND FM BROADCASTING SIGNALS AT VHF AND UHF. WTFDA IS GOVERNED BY A BOARD OF DIRECTORS: DOUG SMITH, KEITH McGINNIS, JIM THOMAS AND MIKE BUGAJ. Editor and publisher: Ryan Grabow Treasurer wtfda.org/info Webmaster: : Keith McGinnis Tim McVey Forum Site Administrator: Chris Cervantez Editorial Staff: Jeff Kruszka, Keith McGinnis, Fred Nordquist, Nick Langan, Doug Smith, John Zondlo and Mike Bugaj SEPTEMBER 2018 RECENT MAIL Here are some comments from WTFDAer Gary Olson regarding our recent survey. Gary writes “I am attaching the survey you recently sent out. As a matter of explanation, I was active in the AIPA and participated in its revitalization as WTFDA. I stopped DXing many years ago due to the demands of my work and time for family. I retired to Sarasota, Florida 20 years ago to a location which probably would have been great for TV DX except I had other interests and found when I tried a little DXing the whole spectrum had changed with many translators and different classes of stations making everything very different. I get the VUD mainly to hear from and about other DXers (present but mostly past) and what they are doing with the hobby.” Gary would like to see more member news and the consolidation of DX reports in the VUD. Well, we once had separate TV DX columns for East and West but had to consolidate them when there weren’t enough reports to keep the Western TV DX column running. TV DX won’t get any easier after the repack and FM is suffering because of band congestion, so it’s possible that even FM reports could be consolidated. It could happen. And it’s possible that DX reports could all disappear from the VUD if people don’t send them in. Such are the times we live in. SEPTEMBER 2018 ··· 2 ··· THE MAILBOX Douglas E.
