Athletic Achievement Award Carson Theriault Carson Theriault, the recipient of the 2019 Athletic Achievement Award, is a field lacrosse player who has achieved recognition at the local, provincial and national levels. Born and raised in Leduc, Carson comes from a family of athletes. Both his parents played sports, his brother is a multi-sport athlete and his sister is on the University of Alberta’s Junior Pandas basketball team. Carson played sports almost his whole life, and started playing box lacrosse with the Leduc Lacrosse Association at the age of nine. He moved to the West Edmonton Blues and Parkland Posse for his minor seasons, then started playing field lacrosse with the Apex Lacrosse Club in Edmonton. In 2017, he was drafted third overall by the St. Alberta Miners. He earned the second highest points for rookies in the league and was the team’s Offensive MVP. In 2018 he competed for the national Minto Cup with the Calgary Mountaineers, and in 2019 he helped lead the Junior B Fort Saskatchewan Rebels to a northern provincial championship. Carson enjoys body building and weight training in the off season. He’s also volunteered as a coach and mentor for other young athletes throughout the years. He has been selected twice for the Mayor’s Youth Leadership Award, and was chosen to be on the torchbearer team for the 2016 Alberta Summer Games. In 2019, Carson signed with Lander University in Greenwood, South Carolina, to play field lacrosse for their inaugural NCAA Division II men’s team. He hopes the team will have a chance to compete for the conference championship before he graduates. .
