
Outdoor Track and Field DIVISION II MEN’S Highlights Title returns to Abilene Christian: Abilene Christian is back on top. After a two-year hiatus, the Wildcats won their eighth NCAA outdoor track and fi eld title in 10 years May 28 at Al Brenda Track on the campus of Cal State Stanislaus. Desmond Jackson won the 200 meters and Nick Jones won the discus to lead the 68-point eff ort. Adams State was the runner-up for the second time in seven seasons, fi nishing with 55 points. Lincoln (MIssouri) fi nished third with 51 points; Emporia State was fourth with 43; and two-time defending NCAA champion Saint Augustine’s fi nished fi fth with 41. Western State and Johnson C. Smith (37 points apiece), Central Missouri (31.5), and Southern Connecticut State, Cal State L.A. and Angelo State (20 points each) rounded out the top 10. “We knew it was going to be a battle getting off the plane,” said Abilene Christian head coach Roosevelt Lofton. “We knew there would be about fi ve teams competing for the title and we’d have to fi ght for every point we got. I was proud to see our kids do that.” Jackson also fi nished third in the 100 meters and ran the second leg of the second-place 400-meter relay team. Teammate Ramon Sparks fi nished third in the triple jump, while Amos Sang fi nished fourth in the 5,000 meters. Adams State did most of its damage in the 1,500- and 5,000-meter races. Andrew Graham and Ryan McNiff fi nished 1-2 in the 1,500 meters and Keegan Calmes came in fi fth. Luke Cragg claimed the 5,000-meter crown. Josh Como of Cal State L.A. won the triple jump crown. UC San Diego’s Nick Howe won his second consecutive NCAA championship in the javelin. Western Washington’s Ryan Brown won the pole vault. The 1,600-meter relay team of Johnson C. Smith won that title, while Lincoln took the 400 relay crown. Lincoln’s Steve Banton won the 400-meter hurdles. Freshman Andrew Etheridge of Emporia State won the 110-meter hurdle title. Augustana’s Aduo Omot of Augustana (South Dakota) won the 800 meters. Leford Green of Johnson C. Smith won the 400 meters. Kimour Bruce of Lincoln won the 100-meter title. 2011 TEAM STANDINGS 16.
