November 27, 1745 in Kings Co, NY. He married (1) GEERTRYUD 2 "GERTRUDE" CORNELISSEN Abt. 1670 in Brooklyn, NY . She was born Abt. 1653 in Netherlands, and died 1687 in New York. He married (2) ANNETJE ANDRIAES WILLYARD June 19, 1691. She was born Abt. 1660, and died Aft. 1745. Notes for SIMON AERTSZEN DEHART: Symon was baptized on October 11, 1643 at Nieuwkoop, South Holland. He immigrated to the United States at age 21 in 1664, arriving in New Amsterdam on the ship "Calderland" even before it became New York (source: Jenkins, G.C., Appalachian Pioneers). His sister Lysbeth came with him, and Symon purchased 300 acres in Brooklyn along with two Negro slaves. He built a stone house which was located on the shore of Gowanus Cove that stood for two centuries. He acquired a 30 acre farm from Thos. Franzen at Gowanus, according to a deed dated 2 March 1674. Simon himself did not use the DeHart Surname, but simply referred to himself as Symon, son of Aert. On September 30, 1687 he took the oath of allegiance to the English monarchy at Breucklijn, Kings Co, NY (source: Meyers, Carol M., Early New York State Census Records, 1663 - 1772, Gardena, CA: RAM Publishers, 1965), and he was appointed city commissioner in 1688. However, on 14 Sept 1697, he was involved in an act of rebellion when several Dutchmen defaced the King's arms hanging at the courthouse of Kings. Simon is listed as "Simon Aerson" on a census of Kings County, about 1698 in the town of "Brookland" (Kings Co, NY). In his household were: 2 white males above 10 years; 3 white females above 10 years; 2 white females under 10 years; 6 black males above 10 years; 2 black males under 10 years; 3 black females above 10 years; 2 black females under 10 years (Meyers, 1965). Simon's will was written July 13, 1744 at Brookland, NY in Gowanes, King's County. The will was recorded on November 27, 1745. ELIAS SIMON DEHART (SIMON AERTSZEN , AERT SYMOSZ , SYMON JACOBUS , WILLIAM ) was born Abt. 1677 in 4 Flatbush, King Co, NY , and died Aft. 1729 in Spartanburg Co, SC?. He married CATHERINE "KATIE" LANE- LAENEN Abt. 1700 in New York, NY in Dutch Church, daughter of GYSBRECHT VAN PELT and JANNETJE LAMBERSON. She was born April 02, 1681 in Brooklyn, New Amsterdam, NY, and died Aft. April 06, 1742 in Pennsylvania. Notes for ELIAS SIMON DEHART: Elias Simon was baptized in New York, NY on 21 Mar 1676/77 (source: "Genealogical Magazine of New Jersey," 1965, January). He lived on his father's land in Brooklyn until about 1710, then moved to Six Mile Run, Monmouth Co, NJ. They were early pioneers there and were members of the Six Mile Run Dutch Reformed Church. Some say their sons were among the early settlers of Berks Co, PA. "By 1708 the [Swedish first settlers] had been joined in the Amity twp vicinity by the 1st elements of a migration from Monmouth Co and neighboring areas of central New Jersey" (Oley Valley Heritage from the Pennsylvania German Society). I find it odd that he is supposed to have died in South Carolina so early in that area's history. If so, he was among some of the earliest white settlers in the area. If his last child was really born in New Jersey in 1721, what sent him down to South Carolina after that? Did his whole family go with him or was he hunting or exploring the area? Between 1765 and 1770, thousands of pioneers moved into the Spartanburg area, and most of the settlers came from Virginia. Was this the case for Simon? One DeHart researcher says Elias bought 600 acres of land in Amity, Berks Co, PA in 1729. Elias and Simon were among the taxables in Amity Twp. before 1734, and the two signed the petition that led to the formation of Amity Twp. Amity got its name from the friendly relations between the Swedes and Native Americans. Elias and his wife sold about 300 acres to Gilbert, and they are said to have moved south to North Carolina, west of Greensboro, with the Boone family.
