Brussels, 1 3 JUIL 2016 _bN /fA CAB D(2016) Ares0 3 3 6 9 O53 Dear Mr Ban Ki -moon, I write to thank you for your letter of 5 May 2016. I am honoured to be nominated as a j Member of the Lead Group of the Scaling-up Nutrition (SUN) Movement. I am deeply aware of the imp01tance of addressing undernutrition in ensuring equitable, sustainable development ! \ as well as laying the foundation for stable and dynamic societies. Since well before 2010 the European Union has deployed considerable energy and resources to put nutrition firmly at the top of the development agenda. This resulted in the creation of the SUN Movement in 2012, among other outcomes. Three years later the result is that 56 countries have joined the movement and made important commitments to mobilise political will and deliver real results around nutrition. We can all be collectively proud of this success. Moving to refine and deliver the SDGs - as well as addressing more sharply the challenges around inequality, resilience and gender- the importance of effectively addressing nutrition at country level becomes even more important. We need to translate our political and resource commitments into tangible results and impact on the ground through improved planning, prutnerships, knowledge-sharing, monitoring and accountability. This is where I believe the SUN movement can demonstrate its added value. Building on its unique mandate and ensuring the international community works as a coherent team in support of country-led national _p lans to address nutrition wiii be instrumenLai io i L::. :;uc.:~ ;,s. "With a view to improving the heaith, wealth and future-prospects of the most vulnerable, particularly women and children, I would be delighted to join the Lead Group of the SUN movement, and continue to ensure the EU plays a leading role in its success.
