Mr. Bontrager has performed as guest conductor with the Cincinnati Chamber Orchestra, the Hamilton (Ohio) Symphony, the Lafayette (Indiana) Symphony, the Mansfield (Ohio) Symphony, among others, and recently with the Denver Symphony. He has also appeared with the Trieste (Italy) Symphony and the National Orchestral Association (New York City), and was the featured conductor at the Modem Music Masters' 25th Anniversary National Convention. Immediately prior to his move to Springfield, Mr. Bontrager served as Music Director of the Hamilton (Ohio) Symphony from 1973 to 1978. In 1979 he co­ founded the Springfield Regional Opera Company and continues to the present as Music Director of that organization. At the invitation of the late Thomas Schippers, Music Director of the Cincin­ nati Symphony and Artistic Director of the Spoleto Festival, Mr. Bontrager went to Spoleto, Italy in 1973 and 1974, charged with the full orchestral and choral preparations for a production of Puccini's opera Manon Lescaut. While in Italy, he was also co-conductor of the Beethoven Marathon with composer/conductor Lukas Foss. Following completion ofhis Bachelor and Master of Music degrees from J or­ dan College of Music (Butler University, Indianapolis), Mr. Bontrager was Ad­ junct Professor of Instrumental Conducting at the College Conservatory of Music in Cincinnati from 1972 to 1976, and was the founder and conductor of the Cincinnati-based Camarata Singers. • -IJ .
