The weather for our first walk from Llandudno to Conway was very nice, we strolled along the beachside path having to take to the beach when it was blocked. A lovely summer day, sea air and good company, what more did we want! Five miles and we arrived at Conway to view the castle and quaint town. We were not so lucky on our walk on the Isle of Anglesey. Rain was not the word, it never relented from start to finish. But you take the rough with the smooth. The Marlborough Hotel was first class, on the doorstep to the pier and the great Orme. All in all it was a good holiday. Christmas is coming and the goose is getting fat….. see you next time. VILLAGES WELLINGTONIA CENTRE Needless to say, CAMPSALL there was a fair amount of litter to pick. It is of course, an offence to drop litter, but enforcement of such laws and bye-laws is very difficult, given the very limited funds available to Local Authorities, who have many concerns with greater priority. Come and join us for a coffee and some friendly So, pleased to report that we chat! Every WEDNESDAY from 10.00-11.00am have people who share the Parish Council’s pride in our villages and in keeping them as BINGO - every Thursday at 1.00pm tidy as possible. Collaboration by Doncaster MBC, led by Pat Hagan, Head of Community Services, Friends of Campsall Country Park and Norton Parish Council has enabled the re-building of the bridge to take place. Thank you to the unofficial ‘guardians’ of the work in the park – the A great deal of preparatory work has walkers who taken place to allow the building work to are being the progress but now that there is once eyes and ears again a clearing and lost or damaged to deter a stone blocks have been recovered, the small minority real restoration work has gathered pace. of vandals who seek to Any recent visitor to the park will have impede been impressed by the elegance of the progress new stonework and the meticulous through attention to detail given by the attempted stonemasons. vandalism. The Stonemason Team Led by Peter Moore (pictured above on the right) the stonemason team have dressed old stone and sourced new stone (magnesium limestone) from Hampole to re-create the bridge structure. Peter has 41 years of experience of stonemasonry and worked on many projects country-wide, as well as locally – the Hyde Park Cemetery in Doncaster being one example, plus at least seven bridges. His expertise is easy to see as the dressed stone interlocks to blend old and new. His knowledge and enthusiasm is shared by his colleagues, Carl Wood (left) and Steve Dalton (centre) who are enjoying the challenges presented to them to create what will be a striking structure. The stonework should be completed by the end of November and then subsequently metal handrails will be secured to the sides to reproduce the original look of the bridge. Plans are also in hand to dredge the stream beneath the bridge and seek to restore a steady flow of water beneath. We are also indebted to Senior DMBC Engineer, Mark Watson and his understudy, Simon Davies for the superb project planning that has taken place and especially to our DMBC Councillor, Austen White, who has relentlessly helped to drive the project. ....and also to As part of the on-going work within the park, Parish Councillor Colin volunteer Sue Wroe Wilson had the excellent idea of installing a TIME CAPSULE in the Park for being prepared grounds. Quickly taken up by Friends of Campsall Country Park and funded to lock and unlock by the Parish Council, Colin has masterminded the selection and collection the park entrance of the contents which will be sealed in a container to be opened perhaps in barrier every day 100 years time! The numerous contents include lots of THANK YOU to examples of contemporary life – Richard and ‘Boomer’ written accounts, artefacts such as a for their voluntary night mobile phone and a photographic watch in the park .... record of what the park and village look like today. 4 Norton Women’s Institute Village Craft and Produce Show 2016 Norton WI hosted the very first Craft and Produce Show at th Campsall Village Hall on Saturday 24 September and it was a huge success! So much so, that everyone wants it to be an annual event, rather than a one-off to celebrate three 90th birthdays – that of Norton WI itself, Campsall Village Hall and of course HRH the Queen. There were 50 classes to be entered, ranging from decorated cup cakes, scones and jars of chutney to cross-stitch and knitted items, to carrots, potatoes and gigantic onions. Anyone and everyone from surrounding villages was encouraged to enter. The Victoria sandwich class (á la Mary Berry) was very competitive, with 11 entries. First place went to Cynthia Hunt from Bentley. There were 19 entries for jam, with first prize going to Annette Brydon from Campsall. The prize for a misshapen vegetable went to Paul Mawson from Moss with an extremely ugly beetroot over 12” long and Joe Hartich and his granddad from Now we’ve made a start, it’s hoped lots more people Edenthorpe won first for a huge marrow over 3’ long! will think “I could do better than that!” and enter – the Lots of people came for tea and cakes in the afternoon and stayed more the merrier! Put the date in your diary for next for the highlight of the day – the Grand Auction of produce, expertly th conducted by the vicar, the Revd Richard Walton.
