LONGWOOD • Winthrop and and Longwood meet for the 15th time • The Lancers earned a 75-61 at the Winthrop Coliseum last season in the only meeting of the 2018-19 season • Eagles lead the all-time series 11-3 and have won 10 of the last 11 meetings • In 14 all-time meetings the Eagles have scored 998 points (71.2 ppg) while Longwood has scored 874 points (62.4 ppg) WINTHROP IN BIG SOUTH OPENERS • Eagles are 17-17 all-time in Big South openers and 7-8 when opening at home • Winthrop has won six straight league openers with two of those wins at home and four on the road • Has won the last three league openers by 15 or more points • This is the second time the Eagles will open league play against Longwood with the only other meeting coming in 2014 when the Eagles win 82-72 in overtime TEAM NEWS • Have won back-to-back games and looking to get back to .500 for the first time since early December • Russell Jones Jr. scored a career-high 21 points off the bench in the win over Elon, which are the second most points by an Eagle this season • The two top scoring performances for the Eagles this season have both been off the bench as Josh Ferguson posted 32 off the bench against Coastal Carolina • This season the Eagles have 19 double-figure contributions off the bench and are averaging 37.3 ppg from the bench • For the first time this season the Eagles have scored 80 or more points in back-to-back games • Enter league play ranked second in offense (78.2) and 5th in defense (71.9) in the Big South • Also lead the Big South in threes per game at 9.5 per game, just ahead of Asheville at 9.2 • While the Eagles make a lot of threes per game, they’re facing a handful of opponents this season that rank in the Top 55 nationally as Elon is 18th, Furman (21st), Fresno State (35th), Saint Mary’s 49th, UNC Asheville/TCU 51st • Averaged over 70 points over the last six seasons and on pace to do so for a 7th straight year • Prior to this stretch the Eagles never averaged 70 or more in a season more than three straight years • Eagles have won more games than any other program currently in the Big South since 2012-13 (Pat Kelsey’s first year) and are just 1-of-2 programs to have less than 100 losses during that time as well (Gardner-Webb is the other) • Winthrop’s opponents they’ve already faced and ranked in the top 125 are Duke (8), Saint Mary’s (32), ETSU (70), TCU (95) and Furman (105) • Through 13 games the Eagles are shooting 61% from the foul line, which ranks last in the Big South and 335 out of 351 • Eagles have shot 70% or better as a team in each of the last five seasons • Eagles only have three players on the roster that have 50 or more career games at the NCAA D1 level (Ferguson/Falden/ Zunic) • In fact, eight of the players on the roster have 11 games or fewer of experience • This season the Eagles have used nine different starting lineups in 13 games (used 8 different in all of 2018-19 season) • Finished off virgorous non-conference road schedule with 80-73 loss at Furman on Saturday (Dec.
