COMMON SURGICAL TERMS AND METHODS OF THERAPY Many surgical procedure names can be broken into parts to indicate the meaning. For example, in Gastrectomy, "ectomy" is a suffix meaning the removal of a part of the body. "Gastro-" means stomach.
