O wonderful St. Anthony, glorious on account of the fame of your miracles, and through the condescension of Jesus in coming in the form of a little child to rest in your arms, obtain for me of His bounty the grace which I ardently desire from the depths of my heart . .. You, who were so compassionate toward miserable sinners, regard not the un- worthiness of those who pray to you, but the glory of God that it may once again be magnified by the granting of the particular request, which I now ask for with persevering earnestness. Amen Dear Friends, We have arrived at our patronal feast. The great St. Anthony is always watching out for us and for so many of our brothers and sisters, who only call on him when they lose their keys or other important item. He never fails to help us in our need. I remember when sharing my icon of St. Anthony with the children of St. Charles Borro- meo School when I was a seminarian and learned a prayer from one of them that I had never heard. “O St. An- thony come around, something’s lost and can’t be found.” The child said that they would pray this and spin around and the item to be found would be in the general direction that they were pointing to. St. Anthony is known as the miracle worker and there are surely amazing things attributed to his help. He raised the dead, reattached a severed leg, preached to the fish, held the child Jesus in his arms, etc. With all these won- derful stories, we might be quick to dismiss them as legend, or on the other hand, superstitiously count on his help. He is only an instrument of God, albeit a powerful one. How did he get to be such a powerful saint through whom God shone so brilliantly? By following Christ’s invitation, “Ask and you shall receive. Seek and you shall find. Knock and the door will be opened unto you.” It all begins with genuine prayer borne out of faith. Often, when Jesus performs a miracle in the Gospels, He asks, “Do you believe…?” I ask you the same ques- tion. Do you believe? Only in the light of faith do we see how God is at work and we remember how He told His disciples, “Amen, I say to you, if you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.” Matt 17:20. I, too, struggle to believe to that depth, but God would not deceive us and although we know that it is against the laws of nature, “All things are possible for God.” With this faith, I invite you to be attentive to the presence of God in prayer. Ask for what you want with fervent desire. He knows what we need better than we do. Trusting in this, we strive to hear His voice and then respond to what He wants us to do. This is what led St. Anthony to do such marvelous things. Only because he loved God with all his heart and believed God could do anything, through his powerful intercession did these wonder- ful things happen. I invite you to follow the example of our heavenly patron and be bold in prayer. Seek with all your heart to do God’s will. You will be surprised at the doors that will be opened for you. In the Loving Heart of Jesus, Fr. Jack D. Shrum Pastor 2 The Feast Day of St. Anthony "Blessed be God in His Angels and in His Saints" O Holy St. Anthony, gentlest of Saints, your love for God and Charity for His creatures, made you worthy, when on earth, to possess miraculous powers. Encouraged by this thought, I im- plore you to obtain for me (request). O gentle and loving St. Anthony, whose heart was ever full of human sympathy, whisper my petition into the ears of the sweet Infant Jesus, who loved to be folded in your arms; and the grati- tude of my heart will ever be yours. Amen. Prayer to St. Anthony for help in finding missing items: Saint Anthony, perfect imitator of Jesus, who received from God the special power of restoring lost things, grant that I may find(mention your request)which has been lost. As least restore to me peace and tranquility of mind, the loss of which has afflicted me even more than my material loss. To this favor I ask another of you, that I may always remain in possession of the true good that is God. Let me rather lose all things than lose God, my supreme good. Let me never suffer the loss of my greatest treas- ure, eternal life with God.Amen Other Prayers to St Anthony: Wondrous Saint Anthony, glorious for the fame of your miracles, you had the happiness of receiving in your arms our blessed Lord as a little child. Obtain for me from His mercy this favor that I desire from the bottom of my heart: (mention your request) Since you were so gracious to poor sinners, do not regard the lack of merit on the part of him who calls up- on you, but consider the glory of God, which will by exalted once more through you, by the salvation of my soul and the granting of the petition that I now earnestly present to you. As a pledge of my gratitude, I beg you to accept my promise to live henceforth more faithfully according to the teaching of the Gospel and to be devoted to the service of the poor whom you ever loved and still love so much. Bless this my resolution and obtain for me the grace to be faithful to it till death.Amen * * * * * * * * * Saint Anthony, attentive to those who invoke thee, grant us the aid of thy powerful intercession for the grace of holy purity, meekness, humility, obedience, the spirit of poverty, and perfect abandonment to the will of God.Amen * * * * * * * * * Saint Anthony, great wonderworker, intercede for us that God may grant us our request if it be for the good of our soul.Amen * * * * * * * * * Saint Anthony, be our patron, our protector, and our advocate in life and in death.Amen * * * * * * * * * Saint Anthony, servant of Mary, obtain for us greater devotion to the blessed Mother of God.Amen 3 The Four Pillars of Stewardship: Prayer, Formation, Service, Hospitality Live Stream Masses on YouTube www.youtube.com/channel/ UC2LPCA6LDk Monday, June 14 wLuQ9XWaDDEw? 8:00 am Flora Taguinod + sub_confirmation=1 Tuesday, June 15 Daily Mass: 8:00 am Soul of Leonor Rivera + * English Wednesday, June 16 Monday M Saturday @ 8:00 am 8:00 am Soul of Susana Rivera + * Spanish 7:30 pm Geraldine Warner for vision, health, and family Thursdays @ 7:30 pm by daughter Mary Saturday Vigil: Thursday, June 17 8:00 am Mila Deloeste * English @ 5:00 pm 7:30 pm Available for Mass Intention Sunday Masses: Friday, June 18 8:00 am Amparo Taguinod + * English @ 9:00 am 7:30 pm Joseph Thanh Dinh Vu + by Tam Vu * Spanish @ 11:00 am & 1:00 pm Saturday, June 19 8:00 am Mrs. Jovita Floyd + by Elmo Templora Our Lady of Perpetual Help 5:00 pm Modesto & Adel Pare Devotion: 61st Wedding Anniversary Thursdays @ 6:20 pm Sunday, June 20 Twelfth Sunday in Ordinary Time Please visit St. Anthony Parish website READING I www.stanthony.cc JOB 38:1, 811 for more information and updates.
