Request I would like to request, under the provisions of the Freedom of Information Act, a list of dissertation titles submitted for the universities LLB program for the academic years: 14/15, 15/16 and 16/17. 2014/15 Is organised crime a growing problem not only in the UK but throughout the world? If so, how much do the public know about organised crime and what is being done to effectively eradicate powerful organised crime groups across the world, and are those methods working? Is withdrawal of treatment merely a legal form of euthanasia? Combating national security in the UK/EU; assessing progress made, current fight and plan of action. Has the European Court of Justice’s focus on the principle of effectiveness and the ‘architecture’ of the union, left the founding humanitarian and philosophical ideals of the union merely an abstract notion of virtues. Do legal aid cuts threaten to deny justice? And should we be worried? Should the UK adopt the death sentence? The dissertation will aim to consider the relationship between law and religion in the European Union and critically discuss the views of scholars that Christian values should be implemented with regards to politics, law and individuals. “One man’s terrorist is another man’s freedom fighter”- Gerald Seymour. In light of this statement, and given the confusion surrounding what constitutes ‘a terrorist’ and ‘terrorism’, can the U.S.A and U.K invasions of Afghanistan (2001) and Iraq (2003) be justified? How adequate is the law surrounding human trafficking, taking a specific focus on the trafficking of children and trafficking for the purpose of sexual exploitation within the UK and the EU. To what extent do social perspectives on gender and sex inform the manner in which crimes involving sex and violence are dealt with in law? How will the efficacy of the law be effected by the recent cuts in legal aid for England and Wales? Critically analyse how anti-terrorism in America has recently developed, with regards to suspected terrorists rights when being investigated by American anti-terrorism agencies. Is the current child care protection system in the UK, adequate enough to prevent child abuse, tragic deaths and other tragic events? This dissertation will describe the legal criteria needed to constitute an offer, acceptance and consideration. This will also include the definition of a contract and the types of contracts there are including verbal and written. The standard form contracts; offers – distinguishing from invitations to treat; counter-offers; communication of offers; acceptance. Animal’ rights in Europe. Abolitionist approach, veganism: religion, spirituality or science. Taking into account certain articles of the European Convention on Human Rights, and it’s cementing into UK law in the Human Rights Act 1998; to what extent are the liberties of freedom of expression and the right to privacy of UK and therefore European Union citizens protected from interference – governmental or otherwise – under the guises of national security and the greater public interest? 2015/16 The Future of Turkey and the EU: is accession realistic? The freedom of expression plays an important role in today’s society and raises many issues. Discuss the restrictions and limitations to the freedom of expression along with the serious consequence of voicing certain view, such as making racist or insulting comments. Does a unilateral economic benefit derived from the right to free movement actually exist? Critically discuss the role of the Common Foreign Security Policy of the European Union in Ukraine, and how such a position may affect the CFSP's role in regards to International Security “Despite three decades of intense scrutiny and reform, the law of rape still fails adequately to protect the sexual freedom of women.” To what extent can this be said to be true? Has there been an increase of false rape allegations over the last 15 years: Is there need for the law to be reformed to limit the occurrence of such claims? A comparison of the techniques used by the police when interviewing a suspect pre and post PACE. ‘Critically analyse the level of concurrence between the institutions of the European Union and its member states, with reference to both the Unions position and Secretariat, Egerton Court, 2 Rodney Street, Liverpool, L1 2UA Telephone: 0151 231 3186 Email: [email protected] effectiveness regarding the threat of terrorist organisations, in particular the funding, and radicalisation of EU citizens.’ A critical analysis of SOCPA Agreements under Articles 71 -75 Cybercrime and how it affects and undermines a person’s security in the United Kingdom. “Balancing the interests of national security and individual freedom, the two are broad as the state has a responsibility to protect an individual’s personal freedom, but equally important the state must also protect its population from terrorist attacks.” In light of this statement discuss how international agencies are dealing with terrorism and their appropriate methods when protecting an individual’s freedom, by using appropriate legislation, case law and academic commentary. Is the current UK legislation sufficient to cope with the rise of home-grown radicals as well as implementing the long-term counter-terrorism plan? The growing phenomenon and radicalisation of the Islamic State The social and economic impact that drug trafficking has on the United Kingdom. With the Suicide Act 1961 making assisted suicide a criminal offence, does the impingement on the individual’s human rights and dignity outweigh the need to protect vulnerable individuals? Should the law on euthanasia and/or assisted suicide be reformed? An exploration of the issue of consent in relation to medical procedures in regards to children and adults, including the mentally ill. Is the law of consent sufficiently communicated and applied through English Medical Law? Human Trafficking for Sexual Exploitation in Women & Children : A Form of Modern Slavery Within the EU To what extent has the International Criminal Court operated within its own mandate in terms of bringing those guilty of International Human Rights violations to Justice? Prostitution and sex trafficking in the EU – are prostitutes criminals or victims? Critically analyse the involvement of Anti-doping organisations in the fight against doping. Is the strict liability nature of the offence enough to deter athletes or does it require the involvement of the law The effect the Bosman Case Ruling has had on European football, particularly the link between UEFA and the EU. The hidden side of domestic violence: does the law adequately protect male victims of domestic violence? Are the current laws regarding child protection adequate to protect children from abuse and neglect from both their guardians and third party perpetrators? Are the current child protection laws in the UK adequate to prevent child abuse? A Critical Discussion on Whether The Anti-Social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014 has been Effective in Primarily Focusing on the Victims Needs The potential impact that capital punishment could have on the financial economy and the effectiveness of the justice system. Can Section 18 OAPA be altered by legislation to minimise the subjectivity demonstrated by the judiciary and juries when interpreting the facts of the case. And in doing so, would this be beneficial or detrimental to the concept of upholding justice? 2016/17 For 2016/17 onwards the University does not hold a central record of dissertation titles. It is estimated that it will take longer than 18 hours to collate this information and therefore the University considers this response exempt under Section 12 of the FOIA.
