We International Matt Pollard believe he makes a great fit with Rotary values and Vocational Matt Pollard we keenly look forward to developing new programs with him. Youth Edda Williams The Multi-District conference and Peace forum begin on Friday 15th February. Conferences can be interesting ventures: if the speaker program doesn’t inspire, (and I really don’t know why it wouldn’t) then the networking and showcase of Rotary projects certainly must. A report on the conference will be in next week’s newsletter. If you are not a Rotarian and find yourself in the CBD on the weekend, pop into the Conference Centre and have a look at the “Marketplace” open to the public – come and be inspired at how Rotary is making an impact on lives. Naturally, if you would like to know more about Rotary and how you might be able to be involved, please come and have a chat. One quote that I love is: I don’t have time to volunteer with Rotary. Response: That’s OK, we’ll take the time that you do have. (Via Neville John, with thanks) If anyone reading this would like to converse further on this subject, please contact me. We’re ready if you would like to talk to one of us about joining our Rotary activities, we’d love to hear from you. Tulloch was one of AJC Derby (1957) Australia’s greatest ever horse races and dominated the track QTC Derby (1957) through the 1950’s and 1960’s. VRC St Leger Stakes Tulloch was born and bred in New Zealand. Trainer Tommy Smith (1958) purchased Tulloch as a yearling for 750 guineas in 1956 at the AJC St Leger Stakes Trentham Yearling Sales in New Zealand, but had trouble finding (1958) shared ownership. .Allthough he never won a Melbourne Cup, Tulloch won many of the most important races in Sydney, Melboure, and Cox Plate (1960) Brisbane. Tulloch's amazing racing career from 55 starts included 36 Mackinnon Stakes (1960) wins, A highlight of Tulloch’s career was the win in the 1961 Brisbane Cup in which he carried a very hefty 62.5kg. Ken said that era saw Chelmsford Stakes many changes in Australian racing including the introduction of the (1960) TAB in Victoria, and the beginning of big stakes money for Australia’s most prestigious races. Ken spoke about some of the myths about Queen Elizabeth Stakes Tulloch, including the controversy surrounding Tulloch missing the (1958,1959,1960) 1957 Melbourne Cup, and why he was withdrawn by his owner much Brisbane Cup (1961) to the dissapointment of trainer Tommy Smith and the stable hands. In April 1958 Tulloch contracted a stomach virus which was so severe as to bring the horse close to death. Tulloch did not race for almost two years. It was not until 12 March 1960 that Tulloch returned to racing as a five-year-old and continued to win majaor races for the next two years. Tulloch died on a Stud farm near Coonabarabran in1969.
