Defiance County Senior Services P a g e 8 For Your Health Wash your hands, wash your hands, wash your hands!! This is my favorite saying during this time of the year. Why? Because hand washing is the single most effective way you can prevent the spread of colds and flu! It is flu season folks and time to take care of yourselves. What else can you do? 1. Get a flu shot– if you didn’t do so, see your doctor or pharmacist 2. Wash your hands-A LOT!! For at least 20 seconds. Sing Happy Birthday to yourself. After all, this may be a good way of making sure you have a birthday again. Yes, flu can be deadly. 3. Don’t shake hands, use a fist bump or just say ‘I’m not shaking hands during flu season.’ People really do understand. 4. Sanitize door knobs and light switches 5. Eat well 6. Don’t smoke 7. Get enough rest 8. Cough or sneeze into your elbow instead of your hands 9. Keep your hands away from your face, eyes and nose.
