Port Development in Myanmar, Covering the Information About Key Players in the Sectors, Main Investors, Events, National and Regional News

PORT DEVELOPMENT Snapshot February 2019 Port Development in Myanmar Background Myanmar has given great emphasis to the transport sector development to meet the international standards in order to support the economic and social development of the state. In Myanmar, maritime transportation plays vital role for country’s economy, serving more than 85% of the country’s export and exports. Myanmar has 2,228 km long coast and can be divided into three sections: North-West Rakhine Coast (713 km), Yangon area Delta Coast (437 km) and South Thanintharyi Coast (1078 km). The coastal ports in these zones are mostly river ports, which are not suitable for larger seagoing vessels. In line with the economic development policy of the country, central government is ambitiously planning to develop deep sea commercial ports. Currently the largest existing port complex can be found in Yangon. Port developments have been carrying out in Myanmar by inviting local and foreign investment. This report aims to present the overview of what is recently happening in port development in Myanmar, covering the information about key players in the sectors, main investors, events, national and regional news.
