It is notable that anti-blasphemy laws exist in Austria, Denmark, Finland, Greece, Italy, Liechtenstein, Iceland, San Marino and the UK. There are also laws on "religious insult" in two dozen of European nations. The International Blasphemy Rights Day was founded on September 30, 2009. It was the fourth anniversary of the publication of satirical drawings of Muhammad in Danish newspaper Jyllands-Posten. That the same day in 2005 saw numerous violent protests started in many countries as Muslims reacted to this ‘blasphemy’. At least 200 people were killed, Embassies burned, and other acts of recrimination carried out. Blasphemy Day is said to be one in which religious beliefs should be subject to examination and criticism in the same way as political beliefs are, and there should be no taboo on religion as well.
