MISSISSIPPI LEGISLATURE SECOND EXTRAORDINARY SESSION 2010 By: Representatives Espy, To: Rules Harrison HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 4 1 A RESOLUTION COMMENDING PERCY "MASTER P" MILLER FOR RAISING 2 AWARENESS OF HEALTHY INITIATIVES, YOUTH EDUCATION AND POSITIVE 3 DECISION-MAKING IN THE MISSISSIPPI DELTA IN COLLABORATION WITH THE 4 URBAN BORN ORGANIZATION AND FIRST LADY MICHELLE OBAMA'S "LET'S 5 MOVE" CAMPAIGN. 6 WHEREAS, Percy "Master P" Miller is committed to the health, 7 education and welfare of America's youth, including the youth of 8 the Mississippi Delta; and 9 WHEREAS, on August 6-7, 2010, kids ages 7-16 learned life 10 skills and the importance of education in addition to basketball 11 defensive and offensive skills from professional athletes and life 12 coaches, including Percy Miller and Johnel Langerston, at the 13 Urban Born Game of Life Basketball Camp held in the Mississippi 14 Delta; and 15 WHEREAS, utilizing successful leaders like Percy Miller and 16 Johnel Langerston to inspire youth, Urban Born is a 501(c)(3) 17 nonprofit organization with the purpose of creating a paradigm 18 shift in urban communities nationwide through intense 19 cause-and-effect programs, interactive multimedia content, 20 seminars and events for middle-school-age students to help them 21 make better life choices, instill family values, desire higher 22 education, avoid crime, improve their lives, be responsible 23 citizens and contribute to their community; and 24 WHEREAS, concerned especially about the health of our young 25 people in this country, through the "It's Time Kids" program, 26 Percy Miller alongside his son, Romeo Miller, and daughter, 27 Cymphonique Miller, is helping First Lady Michelle Obama with her 28 "Let's Move" campaign aimed at solving the challenge of childhood H. No. 4 *HR12/R3* N1/2 102E/HR12/R3 PAGE 1 (CAA\DO) 29 obesity so that children born today will reach adulthood at a 30 healthy weight; and 31 WHEREAS, a native of New Orleans, Louisiana, Percy Miller is 32 an American businessman, entertainer and entrepreneur, who is the 33 founder of Better Black Television (BBTV) and P. Miller 34 Enterprises, an entertainment and financial conglomerate; and 35 WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to 36 commend such a remarkable individual as Percy Miller, who seeks to 37 increase the achievement of higher education within low-income 38 families and to improve the health and welfare of the youth of the 39 State of Mississippi, who are its future: 40 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF 41 REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby 42 commend Percy "Master P" Miller for raising awareness of healthy 43 initiatives and positive decision-making in the Mississippi Delta 44 in collaboration with the Urban Born organization, the "It's Time 45 Kids" program and the "Let's Move" campaign, and express sincere 46 wishes for continued success in all of his future endeavors. 47 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be 48 furnished to Percy Miller, Urban Born and to the members of the 49 Capitol Press Corps.
