We’ve got some great things planned for the coming months. On September 7th we kick off our annual Rally Day celebration in morning worship with a series of sermons titled, “The Hope That Emerges From The Darkness.” We will be exploring the great themes and memorable stories in the five books of Moses in the Old Testament. Worship moves back to the 10:30 am hour and our choir returns to lead the singing. We will celebrate the Lord’s Supper on that first week and set off for another great year of worship and service in our church. Our theme for the church year 2014/2015 will be - Know The Bible, Know God. We will be using the outline of the book, The Story, to preach our way through the entire Bible in the next year. The Story is the Bible, God's great love affair with humanity, condensed into 31 accessible chapters, The Story sweeps you into the unfolding progression of Bible characters and events from Genesis to Revelation. Using the clear, accessible text of the NIV Bible, it allows the stories, poems, and teachings of the Bible to read like a novel. And like any good story, The Story is filled with intrigue, drama, conflict, romance, and redemption---and this story's true! Get your copy of The Story in the church office for just $6.00 or download it onto your Kindle or iPad from an authorized retailer. We will also have some Accompanying Bible Studies . They will give us a chance to dig a little deeper into the texts that were presented on Sunday. In Sunday School the Parlor class get us rolling by talking about these great Biblical narratives during the 9:00 a.m. hour. We will also offer two other follow along studies. I’m calling these “Monday afternoon and evening leftovers.” You will get an opportunity to ask questions, discuss the themes and explore the topics with the Pastor. They will meet on Monday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. and Monday night at 7:15 p.m. Although we will be using a study guide to help us explore the topics, the meetings will be organized in such a way that people will be able to pop in and out as their interest and schedule allows. (Study guides are avail- able in the church office for $8.50.) The other big event for September is our “Back to Church Celebration & All Church Barbecue” on Sunday, September 21, 2014. We hope you will invite your friends to join you for Sunday, worship and then to stay for the Barbecue. It will be very much like the VBS barbecue. It will include good food, lawn games, fun things for the kids, music and a dunking booth where you will get a shot to dunk the pastor and other church celebrities. It will be fun for the whole family. We have post cards for you to hand out or mail to your friends. It is going to be a great day as the picnic runs from right after church until 2:00 p.m. Finally, I am looking for volunteers who are interested in developing our tech ministry as we move forward with our plans to upgrade our audio visual capabilities in worship. I am looking for people who want to explore the ways we can use it to enhance our worship experience. I covet your input. We are going to meet on Tuesday, September 16 th at 6:00 p.m. If you want to be involved but cannot make the meeting, please shoot me an email. Thanks. I look forward to seeing everyone as we come together for a brand new season of ministry together. Be blessed, Cal Page 4 Central Baptist Church of Westerly Board of Trustees After taking the summer month of July off, your Board of Trustees had many fall projects to consider at their August meeting. The most significant of these is to select a bidder to do the parking lot crack sealing and coating. This project will need to be scheduled in late September, after the Church Barbecue. Ener- gy One will also clean the furnace and check out the heat traps in October, after the furnace is turned on. Atlantic Elevator, our new service contractor, will also be repairing our chair lift and certifying our elevator in the fall. We are consulting with several roofing contractors to get bids to do the Sanctuary roof. This information will be used when we meet with the Champlin Foundation to secure our roof grant.
