Currently, VSF-Germany implementing FAO/CERF Drought Anticipatory action project in livestock related intervention (animal health treatment, animal feed and unconditional cash distribution) in 6 woredas (Dallol, Berahle, Kuneba, Afdera, Bidu and Awra) in Afar region. ◦ Plan International Ethiopia currently undertaking FAO/CERF Drought Anticipatory action project in livestock intervention (animal health treatment, animal feed and unconditional cash distribution) in second trench 4 woredas (Aysaita, Afambo, Elidare and Kori) in Afar region. ◦ COOPI has experienced different interventions in the region like flood mitigation for flood affected communities in Mille, and Amibara woredas, non-food items distribution, cash transfer and livestock feed distribution for desert locust affected community in Mille woreda. ◦ Friendship Support Association has an intervention in Dulesa woreda on livestock feed distribution and food item distribution. ◦ The Regional disaster prevention food security and preparedness commission has intervention on food distribution through PSNP and direct relief to the flood and drought affected community. Plans ◦ There is no plan prepared by the Regional Bureau of Livestock, Agriculture and Natural Resources Development. ◦ HRP 2021 not yet officially disseminated by the regional Disaster prevention food security and preparedness commission (DPFSPCO). ◦ The following recent assessment and response plan documents jointly prepared by FAO, government, & NGO. ◦ Joint multi-sectoral Conflict Affected area Response plan December 2020 ◦ Drought Anticipatory Action Rapid assessment Any key issues/Request for Support ◦ Poor resource mobilization capacity ◦ Lack of regular attendance and proper leadership by the lead government bureau and irregularities in participation of members in the monthly APATF meeting might reduce the impact of engagement with Regional Govt and effectiveness of coordinated response ◦ Inadequate awareness on the importance of the taskforce among some GOs, NGOs and UN agencies and, the technical capacity of both the Government and NGOs is limited ◦ Lack of willingness to conduct monthly APATF meeting without interruption as per the schedule ◦ Government leading organization (BoLANR) must take active leading role in APATF and other coordination clusters ◦ Thank you.
