But it also serves as a prime example of how we, as AmCham Germany, can deal with challenges through transatlantic cooperation. The pandemic had us firmly in its grip and is still affecting all of our activities and interactions. But the year has also set some other pioneering developments in motion – in the world as well as in our organization. The US administration under President Joe Biden presents an opportunity to rebalance the transatlantic partnership. The transatlantic economic ties are on a stable footing and have been able to counter the recent turbulent years with robust Simone Menne and trusting relations. Nevertheless, the success of the transatlantic economy should not Executive be taken for granted. We are building on a relaunch of cooperation by promoting a strong © Jürgen Mai Vice President partnership between the US, the EU, and Germany. It means emphasizing that the US is and will remain Germany’s most important partner outside Europe with aligned values and interests. Looking back, the last year has been characterized by many restrictions, especially in person- to-person meetings. But AmCham Germany successfully developed virtual event formats to bring our community together online with profound content and high-level speakers. Some of our event highlights were our Female Founders Award Ceremony and the Transatlantic Business Conference. Alongside the goal of revitalizing the transatlantic relationship, we have launched a new virtual event series: Transatlantic Talks 2021: Paving the Path Ahead. We also continued our top-level meetings with German political leaders, such as the Federal Minister of Health, Jens Spahn, the Bavarian State Minister, Dr. Florian Herrmann, Daniel Andrich © Stefan Krutsch General Manager and many other political decision makers. Lastly, the candidate for chancellor of the CDU/ CSU party, Armin Laschet, is a keynote speaker during this year's Annual Membership Meeting. All of this is only possible through the generous engagement and loyalty from you, our members. AmCham Germany is member-led and member-driven. It is the dedication of our regional chairs and regional committee members that keeps us actively engaged across Germany. With the expertise and commitment of our policy chairs and policy committee members, we can advocate for a healthy business climate in Germany, represent our members’ interests and meet regularly AmCham Germany Annual Report 2021 3 Preface with top political leaders. Our board of directors is dedicated to setting the course for AmCham Germany for the next years by making relevant decisions regarding the Chamber’s strategy. You all drive the Chamber and ensure that the voice of transatlantic business – our voice – is being heard. We are all AmCham Germany. We have to thank Frank Sportolari, who made this possible with his dedication and outstanding work as president over the last three years. Frank is one of the strongest advocates for transatlantic business and, thanks to his ideas and commitment, the Chamber was able to extend its network on both sides of the Atlantic and improve the transatlantic business partnership for our members. At the Annual Membership Meeting 2021, the membership will elect a new president and new members for the executive committee and the board of directors. In the next year, we also want to use our network to talk with influencers and decision makers to communicate AmCham Germany’s positions and to ensure that the voice of transatlantic busi- ness is being heard. With many exciting projects and activities ahead, we will continue to offer you, our members and the transatlantic business community, a variety of high-quality events with political leaders, international trade experts and transatlantic stakeholders.
