Zappa returns to Whitaker Center after his hugely successful, nearly sold out Harrisburg engagement during the summer of 2015. As a man whose birth certificate declared “musician” as his father’s religion, one could see how Dweezil Zappa was destined for a life in the spotlight. The world already knows the story of Frank Zappa, Grammy award-winning musician famous for hits like “Valley Girl” and “Cosmik Debris”, but his son has a legacy of his own. Zappa’s interest in guitar started on the sidelines during his father’s performances and continued to grow after receiving his first guitar at only six years old. He’s had legendary teachers over the years to help him hone his craft, including Steve Vai and Eddie Van Halen. Years of dedication and practice proved worthwhile in 2009 when Zappa’s former project, Zappa Plays Zappa, took home the Grammy for “Best Rock Instrumental.” Encouraged by his win, Zappa redoubled his efforts, made some lineup changes, and continued to dedicate himself to his music. Amidst legal disputes between Dweezil and the Zappa Family Trust over the rights to use Dweezil’s father’s likeness and music on his tour, Dweezil has remained committed to his music and fans and will be embarking on a tour this fall to play the music he loves to the fans who love to hear it.
