1 The Going Family. By Noel Murphy Robert Going of Cranna, near Birdhill, Co. Tipperary but not too far from Limerick City, is the earliest documented Going known to date from his will which he wrote in 1732. His descendants were still living in Cranna in the early 1900’s. (These are the parents of the infamous Major Richard Going, born 1769 and assassinated near Rathkeale in 1821 at the age of 52). Born 1769. Educated at TCD. I.T., T.1788. E.1792. (The infamous Major. The title of Major was a courtesy one which fixed his position in the pecking order at official functions).
