Please feel free to tell us about the experiences you have using this Where to Go Camping book. We would like to have your input on it. You may contact us at the Detroit Area Council (Detroit, MI) either by phone at (313) 897-1965, the Detroit Area Council web site: www.dacbsa.org, or at the Migisi Opawgan Lodge web site: www.migisi.org. On behalf of Migisi Opawgan Lodge #162, we wish you a happy and safe journey in the great outdoors. Where to Go Camping book Migisi Opawgan Lodge #162 Order of the Arrow, WWW This expanded 2000 edition of the Where to Go Camping booklet is organized to provide Scouts and Scout leaders of the Detroit Area Council and other nearby councils with ideas and information to aid in planning their outdoor program. The book is organized into chapters based on the type of activity and location you are interested in. Scout camps, high adventure opportunities, and other camping and outdoor possibilities in various nearby states and provinces are also included. Did you know that there are 72 scout camps in Ontario alone? We don't list them all yet, but we tell you how to get information. The book's primary focus is on camping, canoeing, and hiking opportunities in the Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Wisconsin and Ontario Canada area. High adventure and other special opportunities cover a wider geographical area. Some activities (hikes, etc.) which are particularly appropriate as day trips are only discussed when they are within or are relatively close to the council territory. Rather than provide a comprehensive list of parks and campgrounds, considerable effort has been made to limit the lists to those locations that provide particular program opportunities for Scout troops. Typically, this means that relatively 1 Migisi Opawgan Lodge #162 Where to Go Camping 2000 Detroit Area Council , BSA distant locations, which do not provide for group camping, are not included unless there is a feature of particular interest. For those who like to dream, we have also included information for Alaska, Hawaii, and Puerto Rica, as well as information on international Scouting opportunities. Arrowmen who are age 16 - 21 might be interested in the O-A service crews that combine brotherhood, cheerfulness, and service at Philmont Scout Ranch, Northern Tier Wilderness Area, and even the Florida Sea Base. We have made an effort to check phone numbers and the other information included throughout the book, but it is not uncommon for changes to occur, especially area codes. Please confirm details well in advance with any facilities to avoid disappointment. Where available, we have also provided hyper-links (http://www.....) throughout the material, which can be used to locate additional related information on the Internet. Since we have not had the opportunity to personally visit every single location listed in this book (we are working on it), we would appreciate any feedback that you have regarding appropriateness of these facilities for Scout troops. If we have left out any of your favorites, or if we have made mistakes in the information included in this book, please let us know. Scout Camps Council contact information should be used to make camp reservations or to get additional information. Acknowledgments Thanks to Barry Stiefel from Manitous Lodge #88, for compiling this editable version of his Lodge’s Where-to-Go Camping Book. Migisi Opawgan Lodge was given permission by Manitous Lodge to edit and republish this book. The detail and rage in which Mr. Stiefel completed this edition is incredible and should be given praise for his accomplishment. Thanks also to those who compiled the many other Migisi Opawgan Lodge Where to Go Camping guides which helped us in gathering information for this book. 2 Migisi Opawgan Lodge #162 Where to Go Camping 2000 Detroit Area Council , BSA Table of Contents Scout Camps ..........................................................................................................................5 BSA Camps in Michigan ....................................................................................................5 BSA Camps in Ohio............................................................................................................9 BSA Camps in Indiana..................................................................................................... 12 BSA Camps in Illinois...................................................................................................... 13 BSA Camps in Wisconsin ................................................................................................ 14 Scouts Canada Camps ..................................................................................................... 16 Scouts Canada Camps -
