Royal Warrant The Gurkha Pension Scheme GEORGE R WHEREAS we deem it expedient to make provision for the grant of retired pay, pensions, gratuities and other non-effective benefits to Gurkha personnel of The Brigade of Gurkhas and to their dependants; OUR WILL AND PLEASURE IS that, subject to the exceptions and special provisions set out in the Schedule attached hereto, such awards as aforesaid may be made at the rates and subject to the conditions which were on 1st January, 1948, applicable to Gurkha personnel of the Indian Army of equivalent rank; AND OUR FURTHER WILL AND PLEASURE IS that the provisions of this Our Warrant shall be disregarded for the purposes of the Recall of Army and Air Force Pensioners Act, 1948∗. SHINWELL ∗ The effect of this provision is that a soldier awarded a service pension by virtue of the present Warrant will not be liable to compulsory recall under the terms of the Act referred to Amdt 21 – Dec 20 i THE GURKHA PENSIONS MANUAL POLICY 1. The policy governing Gurkha pension matters is formulated by Army Policy and Secretariat, the Scheme Managers. DBS, the Scheme Administrators, are responsible for the implementation and administration of the policy. GURKHA PENSIONS 2. The policy on Gurkha pensions is issued in accordance with the Pension Regulations for the Army (India) 1961 Part I and II (PRA(I)) as updated periodically by instructions issued by the Government of India. 3. Following the move of the serving Brigade to the Armed Forces Pension Scheme in 2007 the Gurkha Pension Scheme was closed to new entrants. The updated Indian Army regulations of 2009 apply to personnel who were in Indian Army service on 1st July, 2008 and do not apply to the Gurkha Pension Scheme.
