Little Red’s Big Surprise Meet Little Red Riding Hood: Profile Page Name: Little Red Riding Hood Age: 9 Address: 7 Red Riding Cottage, Fairy Tale Woods, Make Believe Land, FT7 LRRH Likes: Looking after Grandma and walking in the woods Dislikes: Being eaten by wolves Little Red Riding Hood was very excited! Today was the day that she had agreed to meet her new friend, Tiny Scarlet Trotting Hat. She had met Scarlet in a chatroom and they had so many things in common. They were both the same age, they both enjoyed woodland walks and they both helped to look after grandmothers! Red enjoyed her chats with Scarlet. Even though she loved looking after Grandma, it was nice to talk to someone her own age. So when Scarlet suggested meeting up, Red thought it was a great idea. They were to meet by the big oak tree, deep in the middle of the woods. Scarlet said that this would be half way between their houses. Red was. to tell no one of their plans. It was finally time to leave and Red rushed excitedly to the door. Suddenly, she stopped. Something felt wrong. She had never gone anywhere before without letting her father know. He had left for work early that morning, to cut down the trees by the river, so she hastily scribbled him a note to say where she was going and who she was meeting. Red grabbed her cloak and raced out of the door. The sun was shining and the soft, green leaves cast shadows on the ground. Red sighed deeply and smiled. She loved to walk through the woods and knowing she was about to meet a new friend at the end of her journey made it even better. Before she knew it, Red had arrived. There was no mistaking the big, old oak tree, as it was the tallest and widest tree in the whole of Fairy Tale Woods. Standing under the shade of one of the tree’s lowest branches was a figure dressed in a red cloak, just like Red’s! This had to be Scarlet, although the shadows made it hard for Red to see her face. “Scarlet, Scarlet, it’s me, Red. Come out of the shadows so that I can meet you,” Red sang out, happily. “If you insist,” replied a strangely gruff voice which Red wasn’t expecting at all. Like this? Red was rather shocked by the appearance of her new friend. “Oh… goodness me… what large ears you have!” stuttered Red. “All the better for listening with. A good friend should always be there to listen,” replied the gruff voice. “Gosh… what large, bloodshot eyes you have!” continued Red. “All the better for seeing the wonderful qualities in my new friend,” answered the voice. Red realised that Scarlet had been moving quietly and steadily towards her as they had been talking. Scarlet was now only a few feet away, but instead of rushing to greet her new friend, Red was feeling worried. “My… what big, pointy teeth you have Scarlet!” stammered Red, fighting a growing desire to run. Scarlet slowly removed the red cape that had been covering her head and body. As she did, Red realised that she had made a very big mistake! This was not Scarlet! This was the Big Bad Wolf, and Red was about to be eaten! Fear rooted Red to the spot. Her head was telling her to run, but her legs felt as heavy as lead. The Wolf reared up to his full height, let out a frightful, blood curdling howl, and prepared to pounce! Red closed her eyes and waited to be eaten. Nothing happened! Slowly, she opened her eyes and to her great surprise, saw her father standing over the Wolf, with an axe in his hands. The Wolf lay on the floor – dead! Red’s father explained that he had found the note she had left and was anxious. He knew how dangerous it was to arrange to meet people you have met online, as they could pretend to be anyone! He explained to Red that she must be very careful about giving strangers too many details about her herself. After what seemed like a very long walk home, Red and her father sat down at her computer and changed her profile page.
