It is a very simple process, and Walk Marshals will be on hand to show you what to do. Everyone checking in will be given a Walk the World wrist band that can be used at the after party to claim food and drink. Starting Instructions The check-in and starting point for the 20km Walk is at the Pavilion building in front of All Saints Fulham church, on the edge of Bishop’s Park on the North side of Putney Bridge. The easiest way to get here is via Putney Bridge Tube Station (a five minute walk) but it can also be reached via Putney Overground Station (about a 15 minute walk down the High Street and over Putney Bridge) or via a wide variety of buses that stop on Putney Bridge (numbers 14, 22, 39, 74, 85, 93, 220, 265, 270, 414, 424, 430). To reach the registration point from Putney Bridge Tube Station, turn left out of the station and then right up Ranelagh Gardens. At the end of the road, turn left and immediately right into a pedestrian walkway called Willow Bank. Ahead you will see a tunnel under Putney Bridge. Walk through the tunnel and you will see the Church Pavil- ion on the other side where Walk Marshals will be waiting. Check-in is from 12.00-13.30. Route Guides Q1 • Start by walking back through the tunnel under Putney Bridge but then take the stairs on the right immediately afterwards, taking you up onto Putney Bridge • Cross the bridge to the south side of the river, heading towards Putney Church (called St Mary’s) WM Q2 • Turn left just after the church and follow the sign to the Thames footpath. Walk left around The Rocket Pub and continue to walk along the Thames path, past Carluccios • Turn right at the Motherhood statue and then take first left along Deodar Road Q3 • Continue along Deodar Road and walk under the railway bridge before turning immediately left up the steps onto the railway bridge WM Q4 • Walk over the bridge to the north side of the river, down the steps and through the tunnel, before turning right at the end of onto Ranelagh Gardens WM. Follow the Thames path sign to the end of Ranelagh before turning left up Napier Road at the entrance to The Hurlingham Club Q5 • At the next junction, follow the path around to the right onto Hurl- ingham Road, along the side of the park. When you reach Sullivan Primary School at the corner of the park, turn right onto Broomfield Lane. Walk to the end of the road and then keep going straight on the path to take you next to the river Thmes River Wl 2016 Thmes River Wl 2016 Wl the World Wl the World • Turn left and walk along the Thames Path for a short distance before following it around to the left and back up to Carnwath Road. Turn right along Carnwarth Road until the Thames Path reappears on the right. Follow it to return back next to the river. • !!! Be careful along Carnwath Road of construction trucks coming in and out of the Hitchcock King on the oppo- site side of the road WM • Continue on the Thames Path along the riverside towards Wandsworth Bridge. Turn left and walk up the path onto the bridge. Cross the river to the south side of the Thames, staying on the near side of the road on the bridge. WM Q6 • On the other side of the bridge go immediately right down some steps and turn right again and walk through the tunnel under the bridge. When you emerge, turn left and walk towards the river. At the river turn right and follow the Thames Path • !!! Watch out for cyclists • Continue along the river path, turn right at the Crown Plaza and left at the end. Pass the London Heliport on the left. Q7 • Turn left after the heliport to return to the Thames Path and follow it to the right along the Thames. Pass Banyan on the right. • Turn right at the end of the path before the construction boards. • !!! There are temporary construction works here and so there is no pavement on one side of the road. WM This is a busy road so please take care. Please cross the road at the temporary traffic lights crossing. Turn left. Walk under the railway arches/bridge and then cross back onto the other side of the road at the traffic lights. • Follow the Thames Path signs which will take you down the side of the railway arches back to the river. At the river turn right and continue along the Thames Path. • Continue along the Thames Path until you reach St Mary’s church and walk through its garden to continue along the river path until you reach Battersea Bridge. • !!! Walk up the steps and cross the road (do not cross the river). This is a busy road so please be patient and be guided by the Walk Marshal WM Q8 • Walk down the steps on the other side of the road and continue on the same side of the river until you reach the next bridge, Albert Bridge. Walk up the steps onto the bridge. At this point the Walk Marshal WM will guide you as to whether we are entering Battersea Park or not (this is dependent on Council clearance). If this in included your Marshal will guide you across Albert Bridge Road and into the Park, where you will do a loop, heading right on en- try and finishing back where you started on exit. Then you will continue around to the right and cross Albert Bridge to the north side of the river. If Battersea Park is not included in the walk, there is no need to cross Albert Bridge Road. On walking up the steps, your Walk Marshall WM will guide you immediately over Albert Bridge on the same side of the road. On the north side of Albert Bridge, take the steps immediately on the left down onto the Thames Path and walk through the tunnel under the bridge. • Walk along the river path, following Chelsea Embankment. Cross over traffic lights when you reach Chelsea Bridge Q9 • Cross the road at the traffic lights and carry straight on along the Thames Path beside Grosvenor Road. Continue to follow the path past some small gardens (Pimlico Garden & Shrubbery) towards Vauxhall Bridge. • After the gardens but before Vauxhall Bridge, look out for the Thames Path sign which takes you back beside the river for the last stretch before Vauxhall Bridge. Don’t worry if you miss it, the path besides the road will also bring you to Vauxhall Bridge • Walk onto Vauxhall Bridge but don’t cross the road. Staying on this side, cross over Vauxhall Bridge back to the south side of the river. WM Look out for WTW walkers on the other side of the bridge – these are the 10km walkers, Walk Marshals (WM) Emergency contact Keep an eye out for the friendly Walk Marshals (WM). These volunteers will be located along the route to point you in the right direction. Walk Marshals can also call for first aid assis- 07841511959 tance and contact the Walk Organiser, and will have a small supply of water for emergencies (but please bring your own supply). Don’t forget to say hello! 07785 521159 Thmes River Wl 2016 Thmes River Wl 2016 Wl the World Wl the World who will join up with you on the other side • After crossing Vauxhall Bridge, take the stairs on the right im- mediately to rejoin the Thames Path on the south side and walk through the tunnel under the bridge. This is where the 20km and 10km walk routes join together, in front of the MI6 Building. • Follow the Thames Path in front of the MI6 building and follow it in front of the next building along Q10 • Keep following the Thames Path all the way along past the Lard Basaveshawara statue, past Tamesis Dock • Keep on the Thames Path going under Lambeth Bridge, past Thames Cruises and in front of St Thomas’ Hospital • Shortly after St Thomas’ Hospital, you will see Westminster Bridge, with the Houses of Parliament in full view on the opposite side of the Thames • Walk under Westminster Bridge and then go immediately up the steps and onto the bridge on the far side of the road. Please walk under the bridge first and then you will not have to cross the road WM • Walk across Westminster Bridge, towards Big Ben, keeping to the right hand side Q11 • On the other side of Westminster Bridge, immediately take the steps down to the right to join the Thames Path on the north side of the river • Follow the path past Westminster Pier, the Battle of Britain Memorial and the Royal Air Force Memorial Q12 • Keep going along the Thames Path, past the Tattershall Castle pub, approaching the two Golden Jubilee Bridg- es that are separated by a third railway bridge • Walk under all three bridges to the other side and cross the road at the traffic lights where the entry to Embank- ment Station is WM • Walk up the steps on the left and onto the Golden Jubilee Bridge and walk over the river towards the South- bank Centre, returning to the south side of the Thames • On the other side of the bridge, take the first steps down on the left to the Thames Path and walk in front of the restaurants underneath the Southbank Centre, including Yo Sushi, Wagamama, EAT, Giraffe etc.
